Hi guys, happy Friday.

I have a matched pair of red Koni rear shocks, one is good but one is bad. The bad one doesn’t move freely and binds, so needs a full rebuild.

What would you do with these things? Last time I looked rebuild costs on these were fought the same as buying a new 737-800, but freely admit I am out of the current thinking on how/where to get these rebuilt.

Thanks!

I have the same issue. One of the red Konis is leaking. Is it worth rebuilding? And who rebuilds them

Koni has a rebuild program, it costs about the same as replacing them with new. That said, when you get them rebuilt they can re-valve if you are running springs that are different rates from stock. I read that their turn around time is not good.

@TravisNeff - any leads on that? The Koni website directed me to a rebuilder uo at Sears Point that was going to be $450+ to have them rebuilt.

Thanks!

Nearly all the old Koni rear shocks are EXTERNALLY adjustable. New shocks being sold are NOT externally adjustable and are gas only. Koni offers the fronts in hydraulic but the rears are NLA. Porsche does have some BLACK non external adjusting shocks in the warehouse in Germany at around $250 each.

So if your keeping with the Koni tradition have them rebuilt.

That's what I found too. I am sure there are other Koni rebuilders out there, I just don't know who they are.

I know for a fact that Koni won't rebuild them in-house; they don't do that any more (I'm a Koni butt-boy and race on Konis, plus I'm friends with the North America Motorsports Manager).

Koni will direct you to Performance Shock (https://performanceshock.com/) or Pro Part, both in CA, or Truechoice in OH (https://www.truechoicekoniracingservices.com/).

Whatever you do, don't toss 'em. If you're not going to use them I'll take 'em.

I had my double adjustable yellows rebuilt by https://propartsusa.com/pages/shock-services
Don't remember what I paid, but it did take longer than I expected (Though I wasn't in a hurry). Painted factory color, Koni sticker, and dyno results. They are located in Simi Valley, CA.

Wow they look pretty new,how have they been stored,if they have been lying flat they can give issues ,stand them both up vertically for a day or so,you may be surprised, if not the faulty one may have a bent spear.
If that's the case have a hunt on ebay you could well find a NOS single unit, good luck.
I can't understand why Bilstein and Koni have rebuild service that charge the same as a replacement....hard to work out (IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif) .

It doesn't make sense for a regular set but there are date coded, double adjuster, custom and race shocks that are worth getting rebuilt.
