Lots of mistakes were made, though it was a learning experience and hopefully made it more entertaining for you guys. Thank you 914World'ers for helping me learn and find solutions, as I said - Keep on tinkering

The intro to the video had me giggling! Sorry your box blew apart, but trust us, we've all been there one way or another on a 914.

I've only done a few fresh air box remove and installs and DO NOT like the task of installing.

Great video!

Ian Karr has a great Youtube video that really helped me when I did mine .People on the forum here would talk about the dreaded FAI box , even Ian said it was a two man job at the minimum . I was a one man operation so I was a bit worried . However, The rubber band method he used and the ratchet clamp I used made it possible and saved me much time and frustration . The hardest part was squeezing the completed rebuild FAI box back into it final position . I did the install in about a half hour by myself thanks @ Ian Karr.
I would have to say I spent much more time trying to install the nylon bushing back into my rear sway bar drop links . I still have not completed that job yet but that's for another day . I have invested a couple of hours on that one and it's still not completed yet .

Thanks again, If I had not found your video I don't know if I would have been able to re-install the FAI back in without much frustration and time lost . You really provide a valuable service to many new and old 914 owners . I can't wait to start following the 914-6 journey and congratulations on selling the Bumble Bee , I would have had a hard time letting that one go .
Maybe one day I will meet get a chance to meet you and thank you in person .

I can’t believe that after all these years people are still struggling to install their air boxes. It is so much easier if you loosen up the two metal struts that support the cowling area by unbolting them from the body. The cowl piece is very flexible and all you have to do to put the air box back in is pull up on the cowling gently while inserting the air bow.

Don't feel bad about melting that blower box. I did the same thing to a 911 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) fixed it the same way. Nice work.
