I got the rear callipers off. I can compress the piston clossest to me when installed. By adjusting the nut and set screw. How do I compress the other piston? Thanks guys!

Same thing on both sides of the rear calipers. There are screws used to set the pad clearance and to make the ebrake work. Pop off the plastic covers and undo the 13mm nuts and use a hex wrench to loose or tighten the pads.

You can't compress it without turning the adjuster nut. In my experience the inner adjuster sometimes won't engage the adjuster worm screw without some coaxing. The inners and the outers are, believe it or not, different designs. While the outer adjuster drives directly into the back of the caliper piston, the inner adjuster engages with a toothed gear on the worm screw that drives into the back of the inner piston.
If the inner isn't movbng at all, try this. While applying pressure to the inner (big-ass screwdriver or c-clamp if you have the assembly off the control arm) simultaneously turn the inner adjuster gear clockwise (4mm allen wrench). Without the pressure from the screwdriver or clamp the worm screw has a tendency to come off the stop inside the inner half of the caliper (actually a sombrero shaped cup held in place by a shit clip.) This causes it to disengage from the adjuster nut (the adjuster nut only engages it for about 1/16 of an inch or so. It really doesn't take much movement to disengage. Another tip is to take off the brake line. Any pressure in the system might be enough to move it that little bit) It was pretty frustrating the first time I encountered it. |

Since it appears you do not have a manual...read the following:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/9...per_rebuild.htm AND Talk to Eric http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=...=4&t=23490&st=0 |

No, one adjuster for each pad. If, after removing the cover on the back side of the caliper, you are faced with an empty hole, then you are missing the adjuster. These are often lost. Check the other rear caliper to see if it has one. They are easily removable, hence the reason they get lost, and one can be used to service both calipers. They are not needed except for servicing, so can be stored in a tool box or other safe place (like a bank vault).

The 308 calipers are the same as 914/6 GT, and priced accordingly.

Haha, Ok I found that little aluminum peice does screw out. It was totally stripped. So I made some new ones my CNC lathe out of stainless. They have a socket pattern instead of hex head. Group buy anyone? I hear they are already available.

You can take a trip and never leave the farm... errrrr club. Ron's link was to my resource thread... this one link to the "how-to" thread.
Dave is spot on (as usual). You're probably missing the gear. Hopefully you have one in the other caliper. Stick a 4mm hex in there and pull it out to use on the one you need it on. Otherwise, Performance Products has them in their latest catalog for $25.00 I "TOO OFTEN" get cores in without these. I'm looking at a $500 order if I can't get my other supplier off his (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/bootyshake.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mad.gif) The 308 caliper is "almost" identical to the 914-6/GT. The bleeders are on the wrong end. They would be on the "bottom" if mounted on a 914. We can do a bleeder mod to make them work. In fact... there's supposed to be a pair on the way for just that mod. It would then have dual bleeders like the later model 914 calipers. I'll keep y'all posted on the repair. It'll be good to see someone sawzall a 308 and put the parts on a teener (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) |

The intent was to have him read Meeder's article and then send them to you for a rebuild. Sometimes I get a little cranky when people don't read/own a manual. Read it and then ask the questions that are not answered there. So, I'll go take a nice pill now and lay off. |
