I need a bit of guidance.

I have a 1975 2.0 FI Teener. I have recently noticed that when I drive around town and the engine has warmed up a bit, the engine sputters, surges, and has little to no power near 3000 RPM. It sometime even has hints of a back-fire. It gets better as the revs go up but all in all it seems to have less power than what it did just a month ago. Naturally it idles poorly also, despite my having turned up the idle screw at the air cleaner. I have not messed with any of the FI components yet, but I am suspicious that somewhere there is the problem. I quickly looked at the points and the dizzy and that is all new from the PO.

Any thoughts or hints as where to start ? I recall reading about two months ago someone had similar problems and there was check list created…..perhaps someone has the link to that or can give me a trouble-shooting starting point (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/huh.gif)

Hmmm... in every gear?

Check, and clean, or replace the TPS..

Naturally idles poorly: No, not naturally.. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) you need a full deal tuneup.. valve adjust, and all.

TPS was on my list of suspects, where is the best place to get a new one ? I do so desire to get the car running decent for the up-coming Mid-West Classic (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

Could be Temp sensor, Manifold pressure sensor, Throttle position switch, Trigger points...BUT, do a regular tune up first, make sure valves are set right, points dwell set or at least gapped right, plugs and wires good. Only after you're sure everything else is right should you think about messing with the FI stuff....or you'll be sorry. I think Pelican site has a tune-up tech article. If you still have problems after that...post more details of the symptoms.
