All aluminum, good power and reliable....pretty cheap as well since about the only market for them is for replacements or sandrails.
A few sites with some good reading about them: C and G Performance and Funco sandrails I know Kennedy Engineering makes an adapter plate and flywheel for it as well and unlike most Honda 4 bangers, they turn the correct direction (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) (IMG:http://www.cgperformance.com/images/CG%20honda%20engine%20WP.jpg) |

Mike: sounds like a great idea, You know I have a Buick V6, lots of power, but it is heavy, all cast iron. An aluminum V6 would be better.
One thing I would ask is vibration issues with a V6, the Buick is not that smooth at certain rpms. even Buick cars had this issue, but it can be worse when the motor mounting is changed (change in motor mount stiffness in certain directions) You might run into this, then again, I think some of them fancy japanese V6's have counter shafts to help smooth them out, If that is the case, you probably wont have the V6 vibration issues. as far as fit, I have now idea on it size. what knid of HP and torque do you expect from these engines? I still really like the idea of a subaru however (although the subaru engine is more pricey) just becuase it is a flat motor. i have heard rumors of folks intaling radiaotrs int eh engine bay, I thnk with teh low profile subaru. An engine bay radiator is nice, as it avoids lots of fabbing. any one have a photo of one of these set ups? |

The S2000 engine spins the right way too. Vibration with the Honda 6 should be minimal, would you mount it transverse or longitudinal?

Whoah. You just stopped me dead in my tracks. The crank spins in the correct direction? I assumed that like the Honda/Accura 4s they spun the wrong way and I never gave them a second thought. You've really got my attention now! This is great to hear. I love options. -Ben M. |

You're making me salivate. The S2000 has a curb weight of 2835 pounds. Think about that engine in a 914 that weighs 30% less. I assumed that engine spun the wrong way and so I never considered it an option. Now you really got me thinking. -Ben M. |

for some reason the V6 motor seems more appealing to me....oh well, more dreaming since I've got this Type IV to build for my car (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smash.gif) |

I'd do it.
If the S2k motor turns the correct way, I would take on that engine first.... And cruzing and top speed would be "interesting" Give a much sportyer feel vs a v6... but I'd honestly do eather... Only problem is they still sound like honda's... |

I don't know, I bet a V6 with some headers would sound pretty sweet and not have that typical Honduh sound (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) |

true...
It will still sound small... me thinks... ie less dispalacement... But Im sure there are header setups and such that could aleviate that... Im still working on a muffler system on my car that sounds bad ass and livable.... (ie tunable..) Not a simple task.. |

Yeah, but the S2000 has a MUCH siffer chassis with new technology in suspension, brakes, etc. I dont like the styling, but if you're looking for performance, get the newer car and "downgrade" things like power steering, leather interior, ac, etc. |

still haven't seen any HP and torque numbers. what kind of power for the V6? what about the S2000 engine, what is it a V6 also? What kind of rpm limit does the S2000 have? 60 mph in first with 914 gearing would mean an incredible redline wouldn't it?
Please post some of the performance numbers for these engines you all are discussing, wiegths would also be interesting too. thanks |

Doesn't the S2k have a 9000k redline and make 245hp? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)
I've heard it will actually rev much higher but the trans, alternator and other belt driven stuff starts coming apart. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif) Can a 901 box handle those rpm's? KT |

as copied from Funco:
No weight on the iron block V8, but it's gotta be up there in weight !!!! These are motors currently being installed in sandrails.
I'm guessing the newer 3.5 motors put out more power and torque S2000 is a 4 banger

Just got my wife a new Acura TL a couple weeks ago. Now that would be a nice engine for the 914 - 270 HP V6 and smooth as glass.

oh yea, huge price difference between the S2000-4 and the V6...
cheapest S2000 on eBay...starting at $3800, motor only tons of V6's...average price $600 to $900 for a low mileage unit |

Now them is some impressive figures, thanks. Yeah, old type I VW motors are not top of the line anymore in sand rails, my uncle has a Rover V8 Turbo Aluminum enigne in his rail. I think the rail weighs under 1000 lbs, that might even be with driver, I forget!
Subarus have the advantage of keeping the weight down low with the flat design, I believe the oil pan does hang lower than the 914 engine, but it can be modified to gain back some of the ground clearance. Again, the subaru sells for a bit, they are less common than Hondas, and they are snapped up by other engine swappers and kit car folks (nice swap in Vanagons) Mike, is the V6 in the photo altready yours? If so can you figure if you need to cut any of the body to fit it? On my Buick, the front engine shelf had to be notched to clear the water pump shaft. What about a engine bay radiator, that would really be nice, save cutting up the front trunk, Anyone seen this been done? |
