Speaking of teener wheels, I've been wondering about crossovers from other makes for 4-bolt pattern. Found this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-Passat-1...009419082QQrdZ1

(sorry you'll have to cut'n'paste, I don't know how to do the little quick-link thingy)

I think these look pretty slick, with a late-model-911 look. More important was the info that late-model VW is the same bolt pattern, greatly freeing up my options.

the seller is wrong.......

914 bolt pattern is 4x130

VW Golf/Passat is 4 x 100

I've put 4 x 100 on a 914, not easy but doable (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smash.gif)

That's unfortunate news. I thought there was a whole new world of easy-peasy wheel replacement.

Do you mean that you've actually hammered them on? How'd you do it, exactly, and why? What are the side-effects, apart from bursitis?

The hubs/flange need to to be redrilled and new studs pressed in...I ended up selling the rims and throwing away the re-drilled/machined parts..........there is a shop up in Washington that does the mods for about $180 bucks..that does not include the new rear wheel bearings you'll need due to removing the rear flanges....

Not certain, but I think another complication is offset. Front wheel drive VW wheels are quite different I think.

actually the FWD offset works in ones favor...I had 16x7's with 205's under bone stock rear fenders....most FWD offsets are 35mm to 40mm offset which works nice....

Marv's3.6six,

those are nice (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wub.gif) ....good choice with the 17's..tons of tire choices
