The freedom trail and Fanual Hall are the best bang for the buck.

And/or do a quick harbor cruise out to the Constitution. Go get some great Italian food in the North End. If you are a BaseBall fan, you can tour Fenway in the morning I think.

I recommend-

Museum of Fine Arts. Current exhibition can be found here-

http://www.mfa.org/exhibitions/index.asp?key=894

You can also click on the heading for "collections" to see a listing of all their collections. It's easy to spend a full day here, or a few hours if you stay focused and have some other destination. It's out of the way, but right on the streetcar line which can take you directly downtown when its time to move on....

Museum of Science is great for kids, in my opinion. I've been there many times with my daughters as they were growing up, and always enjoyed it, but it's really geared to pre-teens. That said, there is an AMAZING cutaway of what was probably the biggest air-cooled piston engine ever made- 54 cylinders of B-36 horsepower, and it's cut-away so you can see the air-cooling channels, pistons, etc.... There's also an Imax at the museum.

OK, I just looked and I take back most of what I said about the Museum of Science- current special exhibit is Gunther von Hagan's Body World's exhibit. Real dead people stripped of their skin and preserved in plastic. Definitely not pre-teen stuff. Website-

http://www.mos.org/bodyworlds

You may need to make reservations in advance for this one though. Here's the Museum of Science web address. You can buy tickets here for pickup when you get there. http://www.mos.org/

My personal favorite is the USS constitution. Take a tour of the actual ship and spend some time in the museum....

Also a popular tourist destination- Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. These are in downtown, not in Quincy as the name implies! History mixed in with shopping and restaurants. For food- Durgan Park- reputedly the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the USA. Be sure to eat upstairs, not in the bar. Outstanding chowder and prime rib.

For seafood- McCormick's in North Market (in the Quncy Market complex), or around the corner at Union Oyster House- a favorite of the Kennedys.

That's it off the top of my head. Supposed to be a nice day. Have a great time..

Jim

Walk a portion of the freedom trail and stop by the Bull & Finch (Cheers bar). Fanuel Hall & Quincy Market are good and the prime rib at Durgan Park can't be beat. The Constitution Museum and tour are awe inspiring. Wrap up your day with a trip to the Prudential Center and have a drink at the Top of the Hub.

The Red Sox are playing at home against the Orioles with a 1:25 start time. If you go to the park early enough you may be able to get tickets if for nothing else then the bleachers. Boston Beer Works is around the corner and is good, as are the night clubs there on Landsdowne Street.

It's going to be a beautiul day get out and enjoy it! This area is so full of history and there is so much to see one day is hardly enough.

My best,
Mike D.

Last time I was there I ran from Hopkinton to downtown with 20,000 people I didn't know.
I am going back next April to do it again. The whole state takes that day off (patriots day)... come out and run if you can qualify...

i went to boston yesterday---I hit up the Boston Aquarium, it's worth the time and cheap admission!

The Faniuel Hall area is a lot of fun, and not as expensive as you'd think it is....great food and great atmosphere!

Have fun! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Boston rocks! I highly recommend Dolce Vita Ristorante on Hanover St. It is the best Italian food ever! Oh, and bring female companionship! Either that or go to the Union Oyster House and get the chowder. Ask for the John F. Kennedy booth - second floor, center aisle, away from the windows. Have fun! Thanks for the suggestions! I am here on business just for one day, and I just decided to fly back tomorrow instead of today to see some of the city.

So far, it's been a fun trip. I've done Quincy Market/Durgin Park now, today I'm meeting up with a friend from college who I can hopefully drag around to some of the touristy places.
