For ease of synch to outlook get a windows based one. Nowadays you can get phone and PDA in one. The primary maker of windows based PDA's is HP. I have two and like them. One is a first gen and the other I just got in 06. Staples was the only place that I could find that stocked them.

I think Palm is still the best OS. I'd suggest going to a place where you can use one to see which model you like best.
Now another option is to get one of the new phones that offer Palm OS. My wife is looking at those now. |

I've got an Ipaq...HP makes it and it uses Windows CE or Windows Mobile...I can't remember what it's called today. I've got the model 2795 and love it. It syncs nicely with Outlook and IE.

I have a Treo 650. It is very good out of the box, but the selling thing that I really like is the BlackBerry connect software. It works like a Blackberry for e-mail, but the rest is pure Palm.

I have a Dell Axim X51v. I like it that I can get my email or do some (simple) browsing over Wi-Fi. It's a bit bulky and heavy tho. Miss the lighter weight and smaller size of my old Palm. Nearly bought the Palm TX but in the end took the Dell. If she only needs PIM features a Palm may be better suited.

I have a UT Starcom Pocket PC. I bought it with a phone package so it only cost me $50. It uses the windows mobile software, slide out keyboard or stylus. Very user friendly, and it does sync to Outlook.

Does Palm sync nicely with Outlook? (I haven't had a PalmOS handheld since my Handspring Visor. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) )

Different cell carriers offer different PDA phones. Check with your cell provider to see what's available.
Palm OS, as easy to use as it is, is likely on its last legs. Especially with the money the MS is pouring into Windows Mobile 5 and now that the Apple iPhone (name to be cleared up after Cisco lawsuit) hits the market. I'd look for a Motorola Q or Blackjack. They are small, light and have full windows mobile 5 features with contact, calendar, etc... Made to synch with outlook too. Blackberry is rock solid, but they nail you extra for their data services and the phones are somewhat limited. I'd steer clear of Treos, especially the 650s, as our customers have had nothing but problems with them. The 680s are in testing now and seem more stable. The 700w people like, but thats WM 5.0. YMMV |

iPhone beats them all for feature integration and ease of use. I recommend waiting if you can.

I have a Zire 72 and it syncs well with Outlook. It also has a built in camera and Bluetooth so I can take photos and then beam files to and from my laptop. Palms are generally less expensive than the windows models. I used to have a Cassiopia, and I kind of liked the Windows OS better, but over-all, I'm pretty pleased with Palm. A word of advice... don't carry it in your pocket like a phone. The front screen is about $150 to replace.
