actually, those are so the engine can suck in at least a little bit of air.

noticed the missing engine lid? that thing must run crazy hot with no way for the air to escape ...

Wow, I know that car. It belong to a guy who went on the Tour 2000 with the old 914 Owners Assoc. It belonged to an older guy, who bought it new in 70. Still had the 1.7 engine however it was on it's 3rd rebuild then and had Hydro lifter. He had done the convertable conversion about the same time as the second rebuild, mid ninties some time... I hope he is still around (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)
