www.irfanview.com is a free image editing program - it lets you batch downsize photos and more.

if you don't want to downsize your photos to load here - you can get an acct at www.pbase.com for $20 a year and upload full res there. you can zip a whole file of pics and then uploaded the zipped folder in one shot - the put a link to the gallery in any of your posts.

an example of mine is - http://www.pbase.com/jimkelly/pedrini

Or you could use Gimp which is an OpenSource(free) program that is compatible with and comparable to PhotoShop.

You can also sign up for Flickr to host your photos online. It's also a free service.

I use Flickr, and love it.

I upgraded to the paid account, though. $20 a year. Worth it for me.

Sadly, if you use imageshack on larger forums, you will blow your monthly bandwidth limit quickly. Within minutes, sometimes. Thats why I changed to Flickr. I was using the free product for several months, and decided it was handy enough to step up to the full product.

From the imageshack site...

ImageShack allows unlimited bandwidth for videos and slideshows, and allows each hotlinked image 300 megabytes of transfer per hour. If a hotlinked image exceeds this amount, it will become inaccessible, and you would need to send us an email in order to have it enabled again.

In order to prevent inaccessible hotlinked images, please utilize the clickable thumbnail function as often as possible instead of hotlinking full images. Clickable thumbnails are generally small in size and do not use as much bandwidth as large images. Your images' viewers will be able to click on the thumbnails in order to see the large images.

The most common causes of large bandwidth usage are animated gifs inside the avatar and signature section of message boards and non-thumbnailed series of large images.

300MB an hour is plenty for images after they are resized down to 1-200k (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Most threads dont get 1500+ Hits in a single hour, so I think it will be fine for 99.9% of the stuff on this board (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

To edit images, use Paint .NET. It's totally free, offers functionality similar to photoshop...

I host using flickr. I have no problem paying $20/yr for everything they offer. Great service!

I've been using Irfanview for years. It serves 90% of my image needs.

BTW folks, it would still be greatly appreciated if when you post images from another site they aren't wider than 800 pixels and create horizontal scroll bars (for most users, I know it doesn't apply to peeps with ginormous monitors). yuk...
