There is a ranger station at the bottom of the San Gabriel canyon, we'll meet there at 9:14. Here's a rough Map, THOMAS to post additional directions...

Steve, thanks for the update and the offer to check out the road this afternoon! If by chance the road happens to be closed we can come up with an alternative route.

Oldschool, sorry to hear about your car (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Any new attendees?

EDIT - Thomas caught up with the ranger station; East Fork Rd will (and is) open so it's all good! Yeah! Time to drive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) . Hwy 39 is closed AT East Fork but the roads Thomas wants are open.

Thomas - There's a Cultural Center on San Gabriel Cyn Road just after you make the turn to go into the forest. It looks like a great place to meet. Lots of parking and it's right off the road.

hey tony, what seems to be the problem? if you think it's the caliper, i have an extra spares if you wanna try and see if that fixes the problem. assuming that you have stock brakes..

let me know dude. you might be able to make it in time..

Alright, this thing is still on!! No need to worry. We are driving up to East Fork (which is open) and then taking the Glendora Mtn. road to Baldy. Thomas just called Caltrans and they did confirm that all of these routes are open. GAME ON!

Well, I would certainly try a spare caliper for this run. The symptom is that when I do mountain drives it starts smoking. This happened a few months ago and I adjusted the venting clearance and it happened again a few weeks ago.

My theory is that earlier this year when I replaced the pads with new ones I must have set the pistons in an unhappy area. My suspicion is that the worn pads were worn for a long long time and the piston must have rusted a little and now that it is farther in, it is unhappy and occasionally under hard braking decides to stick.

My long term plan is to swap out the calipers with a set of boxster calipers that I have, but there are many time consuming things involved in that (5 lug rear conversion, 911 parking brake, etc, etc.etc...

Or I could catch a ride (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

hey tony, i'm gonna be wrenching my car this friday if you wanna come up and try out this caliper that i got. which side is it again? there's also a little short stretch of mountain road right near me to test it out. think i'd also clean out all the lines ,and make sure there's no debris in the lines to send more pressure to the rear caliper when you brake hard.

i'll pm you with my info. but ya sorry man.. my lady will be with me for the ride.. i mean no offense, i know you're a good guy and all. but you don't look that good in a mini skirt (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)
