Hiya. just got finished returning my bosch 09171 plug wire set because it will not fit. I hav heard that superbeetle or typr 3 w/fi will work. For them I get two bosch part numbers 9001 and 9004. Does anyone know if either or both work? How about beru? TIA

How about Magnecore ?
their 911 sets are excellent and i've heard (but not experienced personally) good things about their /4 stuff too. |

I have heard good things as well. I am looking for a flaps type solution. Failing that magnecore would be on the top of the list.

Order the Beru set for the 912.
Beru is the OE for Porsche; the quality is much higher than the Bosch parts. Most all of the web-places seem to think that all the 914's take the same set. This is flat wrong; I verified that with the factory!. So... Order the Beru set for the 912. It will fit the 2.0 motor properly. Don't bother with the MagneCore. Now, if only "we" could get people to use the classifieds properly... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) |

Did I do something wrong? will the beru set for the 914 work? I can get that but I will have to order it(locally). |

Here's the scoop on Beru wire sets: They make two sets for air-cooled 4 cylinder engines. One set fits 914 1.7, 1.8 and most T3 motors. One set fits 914 2.0 and 912's. Verify that you're getting the 2nd set set (any way you can) and you're good to go. I've just found it easier to order it as a set for an early 912, as most of the parts-counter-monkeys refuse to believe that their ordering computer could be wrong. |

QUOTE(garyh @ Mar 15 2004, 11:39 AM) Beru is the OE for Porsche; the quality is much higher than the Bosch parts. Have you ever looked at the comments about Beru wires on the PP 911 BBS? People hate them there. I took apart a 911 set once and was not impressed with the way they are constructed. They have little fuse-shaped resistors inside that are held in with springs, and the connections can get dirty and cause the wires to show very high resistance. (Basically an open circuit.) This can cause misfiring. I never was able to pin any misfiring down to the wires, so YMMV. |

To Jeff:
Have you ever looked at the FLAPS-version Bosch wires? They would need serious improvement before they could be called cr@p. The 4-cylinder Beru sets have none of the problems you mention. Gary. |

Gary, good to know. I will keep that in mind when I buy wires for my 2056. I have had fitment problems with Bosch wires on my 1.7 and was not happy at all.

QUOTE(jkeyzer @ Mar 15 2004, 01:04 PM) found the pic yep... them's the parts Porsche specified as OEM to every early 911 all right ... i think there are better 911 alternatives today, but the OEM ones worked fine and for a long time or the factory wouldn't have used them. (yes, i understand Beru probably gave them a darned good price on the custom tooling too ...) however - a T-IV is not a 911... |

Agreed, they still have those plug extensions though. What's inside them on the type IV?

Well I also have a BERU set on my /4 2.0 it does not have the extensions, at least it doesn't have a right angle at the end like the one pictured and the solid part is not that long. I don't have the part # handy... sorry bout that might be a european set..... greets Jacco delft, the netherlands |

QUOTE(jkeyzer @ Mar 15 2004, 01:25 PM) Agreed, they still have those plug extensions though. What's inside them on the type IV? The 914 plug ends are straight. Near as I can tell, there's a brass rod with the spring clip for the plug at one end, the screw for the wire at the other end, and just a brass rod in the middle. Looking at your photo: I'm working on a chip, in Mt View. Hmmm..... |

thanks for all the responses. I found a set that may fit made by CAROL. Any feedback on them is welcome. The beru set should be comming from a local warehouse. They cannot confirm the size until they get in. " parts monkeys" is correct. I went to a local canadian tire and asked for plugs.
