I've pulled the gas tank from a 74 car which had been sleeping a long time (8+ years) to clean it.
Gas wasn't treated so the fuel sender is coated about half way up with a nice think brown very hard varnish. Is there anything that can remove this stuff without destroying the sender? I'm worried that whatever would work well, might damage the sender, in particular the bottom plastic cap. I've already tried sooaking in gasoline for several days - nothing. Sprayed with carburetor cleaner, didn't seem to do anything. Sprayed with brake cleaner, again didn't seem to do anything. Any suggestions? Has anyone successfully ever cleaned a sender that was so coated with varnish? Is there anyway this sender can be cleaned and saved?? -- bill |
