Rob, what is the minimum size space for the autocross. The Horizon guy says their lot is 150yd x 100yd, but I'm not sure if that's overall. I'm asking him what size the red rectangle is.

Per our phone conversation, I have copied your picture and will run it by Bob Peake. I think we would want the whole parking lot, not just the red area and there are rules concerning distance from obstacles and such but Bob would design the course so that isn't our concern. We need to make the arrangements, pay any fee for it's use. From there, Bob will supply, run, insure etc... We just take the results, separate out the WCR registered autocrossers and publish our own results as if no one else was even there.

The response from the Horizon.

QUOTE
This is the same section I had been looking at. This box is roughly 100x100 yd., but it might be able to stretch to 120 or so on the length. I walked it the other day to get an idea. There aren't any obstructions other then the light poles that you have marked and the landscape island on the top right side of the rectangle.

Just for reference, the lot at Stockton costs SVR $1000/day and they have to supply and pay a security guard. That lot is in much better shape than this as far as the asphalt is concerned. This is maybe a $600 - $1000 lot. But as you and I discussed today, if he wants to drop the price and promote it as a Porsche Parking lot Grand Prix he can put up stands and food booths no problem. They have the stands for sure. They do rock concerts in that parking lot.

I am still laughing about the $60,000 lot fee... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I had a conversation with the SVR autocross chair yesterday and sent a PM to McMark. I have not heard from Mark yet but I doubt he could resolve the quick concerns SVR had in this short a period of time.

SVR wants more room. Basically the area the Horizon is offering is 300'X300'. They (SVR) want at least 500'X 300' or more.

They also wanted resolution on that issue by today when they made announcement of the intended slate of events they will present at the planning meeting. I thought we had the day but he announced them a little while ago. He has elected to hold an event in the Infinion Paddock on the 29th of May and as I previously stated, I doubt he wants to drag a trailer 70 miles West one weekend and then 100 miles East the next.

If Mark can get the Horizon to offer more lot, up to or greater than the amount requested by SVR, I would be happy to try and get them on board for the event at the Horizon.

Whoops, sorry 'bout that Rob. I sent a message to Drew @ the Horizon, but forgot to get back to you as well.

I haven't heard back from Drew yet. I have a sneaking suspicion that he was thinking our event would be much larger (more vending revenue). Hopefully he'll get back to me on Monday.

I am buried at work as well. I have worked the last three days and will work the next four before taking a day or three off. I have a coworker on vacation.

I will try to talk to Bob before next weekend and maybe get him to come to the Reunion.

Bob will want more. Remember too that if we do get the autocross we get a better vending group for Drew. It would become a PCA Sac Valley and Sierra Nevada Co-Event.

Build a limo and get back to me Monday.

Technically it would be 2 weekends later, if the dates are still the same. I'm not running in the autocross, but if it helps get the autocross, I'll trailer the damn thing around CA. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I think at this point since we have not heard from Drew and SVR autocross chair is saying he needed to know what we are going to do by a week or so back we should consider moving forward without an autocross as part of the WCR event.

SVR competition chairs present their calendars to the board next Thursday the 4th of February. SVR wants at least double the area the Horizon is offering. We are out of time and need to face that reality.

There are so many great drives to be had at Tahoe I suspect no one would even miss an autocross. I'd say two days of drives. Since there is so much gambling going on maybe our own WCR Blackjack table at one of the casinos?

I'm realizing that I'm not going to have as much time as I thought to plan the AX. Plus the lot sounds like it's going to be too small, plus I'm likely not going to be able to enjoy the AX (likely no car), so anyone else who's got a strong opinion, speak now or the AX will likely fall away.

The lot is big enough for the British cars that have used it annually forever but the SVR Autocross chair has a good point, if we do this thing in conjunction with an SVR weekend event we are LIKELY to get some GT3 and other huge HP machines trying to manuever in a small area. Not likely to be much fun.

If we could get double the offered space or more, and do it before a week from today, AND get the SVR Autocross chair to present it as a proposed event then it could happen.

As I said, at this point I think it is lost. But, again, we don't have to plan it. SVR would do everything.

By the way, letting go of the autocross option opens up the possibility of using a different hotel...

Would any of the $30 per car sign up fee go toward track rental?

A different hotel would be nice to secure, just because it's not clear whether or not the Horizon will be there come this Spring.

Mark - what are you thinking track wise? Another lot or a "real" track (Reno?)?

I'm actually leaning more towards just leaving the whole thing alone and not doing the AX. The money aspect is stressing me out.

I'm liking the idea of picking some dates, telling people where to do and just showing up to have fun.

Let's give it until tomorrow for any other planners to pipe up objections. Then will you make a post tomorrow, Randy?

I'm ready to make the post. Should we PM the other planners first just to cover our bases?
