so i have these 2 clutch discs, pictures below, and i am trying to figure out what they fit. One looks like a Kennedy and looks new and the other says Sachs but i can not identify the numbers on it. Both fit onto the splines of a 914 901 transmission. The second one does say 228mm Stage III VW/Porsche on the box but things have been moved around so much i am not sure that it is in the right box. So the question is, if it fits on a 901 spline, does that mean it will work in a 914? It just cant be that simple can it?

Check to see if it fits into the flywheel. I could be interested in the Kennedy unit. I think that is what I'm running now.

Both will fit your 901 just fine.

The first is a Sachs 6 spring which is a replacement (and improvement) for the stock 4 spring.
The second one is a puck-type "racing" clutch.

If your car is a street car, sell the second one and use the first one.

The racing type is pretty much like a on/off switch. You'll hate it on the street.

And here's what they look like if you try to put too much torque through them ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Isn't a 228 MM a bus disk? Thought the 914 was smaller

Doh! Missed that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/slap.gif)

The 228mm is a Kennedy 9" Stage 3 ...
http://www.kennedyeng.com/vwpo_dis.htm

It won't fit the stock flywheel but Kennedy sells 9" Flywheels and pressure plates to go with that clutch disk:

The only other one that has the early 914 style splines (and is 6 spring) is the '70 - '71 only 911 225mm disk. If yours fits in the flywheel, it's a 914. If not, it's what is mentioned above.
