I have an opportunity to buy a rust free roller. It was someone’s project car and never got put together. What is a roller worth?
PS - I'm on the east coast?

Around here it would be $300.00-$500.00. Good trim would add some or a lot. Obviously a perfect 914 except for a missing engine & tranny is worth a lot more than a shell with suspension stuck to it.

Being that its on the east coast, I'd say 500-1000 for a truly rust free roller. Just check well for hidden "repairs" that so many of these cars are plagued with.

In my neck of the woods I don't see rust free. A fairly rust free tub up here would be $500 easy. A real nice roller with decent interior would be in the $1k+ range. Since we don't see them you have to add shipping costs to determine value in the rust belt. Getting a runner shipped up from the West coast is @ $800. Add that to your $300 car and you get $1100.

Where in PA are you? If it is truly rust free (none are) and a roller, you could see as much as $1000-2000 in this neck of the woods. Even more. I was looking for one after I folded mine around a pole and all of them over here were crap and expensive. I ended up getting a free roller from CA, all I had to pay was the $1150 shipping and it was very worth it.

Landenberg, PA. Just over the Delaware state line. It's rust free since PO did $2K in rust repair, a cheap paint job and then project stalled.

Are you still doing trans repair?

beware the fiberglass hell hole fix then slap cheap paint to make it look presentable. A Cheap paint job might indicate that corners were cut elsewhere.

Rust free roller is a fictitious myth. they do not exist anymore. 2k in repairs would cover the big stuff.

ask for pictures of the jack points behind the rocker covers. and hell hole and under side of the foot pedal area with cover removed. (UNDER GAS TANK) underside of car at the firewall where the seats are. inside of the head light bucket where the drain tube is.

Rust-Free rollers do exist, I have sold 3 in the last year. One I didn't have a Title, so that went for $500, one I traded towards work on my -6 and a Real 914-6 went for almost $10k

before starting your restoration and it will be much more interesting.

I bought a 99% rust free roller last April. The only rust I could find was in the front trunk rubber channel. Other wise I could not find ANY rust. The hell hole is a heaven hole. Perfect.
It's a CA car that has been off of the road and in a garage since the early 1980s. It also has original paint. The down side is the "storage" dings in the doors.
I paid over $2k. The PO dropped his project. this car came with a 6 engine mount installed and he had front sway bar mounts installed and the clutch tube fixed, so some of the cost reflects those improvements & repairs.
It was pricey, however I have a car that I can keep for a long long time w/o worring. Also I found it cheaper to build a new roller than have my rust bucket fixed.

I just picked up a pretty much rust-free roller last weekend, from here in NJ. Given it was originally a NV car, on the east coast I paid under 1k for it. '73 2.0, but no motor or trans. Has front/rear sways, bunch of parts, etc.

Original longs, no repairs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
