Bottle of fox urine will keep them away. No don't throw it at them! Sprinkle it around the property edge. They'll leave right away

A good job for someone in these trying times.....fox pee collector.
All you got to figure out is....do you scare them or piss them off?

As much as I hate cats, I could never bring myself to shoot one.

Try FFF "Friends Of Feral Felines".

I'm not sure if they are national or not.

Cool Cat! I thought mine was big--he's a big Norwegian Forest Cat, but he's nowhere near as big as Buzz. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

We used to tree cats all the time while coon/bobcat hunting with my hound dogs. The truly wild ones that live in the woods are amazingly tough....They still get torn in half and buried by a dog, though.
Oh, and the bad Karma goes to the idiot that let a cat go without getting it snipped first. I'm helping my local eco system. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/KMA.gif)

I should add that I have cats that I let live. They have jobs and they are fixed. My old man even cut off part of one ear on each cat after he spayed/neutered them in his taxidermy studio so everyone knows they are fixed and not targets...He's a retired veterinarian. If you cut off part of your cat's ear, it's a widely known sign that it's fixed. It sounds rude but it will keep your cat alive if you live in the country. Otherwise, we shoot.

Is the current cover so shredded that you couldn't put it back together with some iron-on patches, the kind your mom probably used to repair your blue jeans when you were a kid?

Nope, I've already patched this cover in several spots using "Gorilla Tape" and that sticks well, but before the long tear, they removed about a 2 square foot spot in tiny pieces. SO aside from the long tear there's a big chunk missing out of the middle.

QUOTE(ConeDodger @ Jan 18 2010, 11:10 AM) *

This is a pretty simple fix. Contact a local cat rescue agency and ask if they have a live trap you can use. They generally loan them out. Then buy some cheap cat food and put a paper cup of it in the back of the trap. You will be catching kittens for as long as it takes to get them. There is a Federal Grant currently funding catch - spay/neuter - release programs. If the kittens can be tamed, they will be adopted. If not they are re-released into the wild in parkways to control rodent populations. This should solve your problem without having to fu@k your karma in the next life or having Clay bring that big MOFO over to kick your cat hatin' butt. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Cat ladies are generally not socially good for anything but cat rescue programs. They make lousy wives. Ask me how I know...

Don't worry, I wouldn't REALLY shoot the cats (hell, we already named 'em...we call the black ones "Boo" and the orange one "Punkin'" because they first came out around Halloween).

Our next door neighbor (who's front porch they're living under) has already contacted a humane trapper to remove a woodpecker that keeps reopening the same hole every year in their siding each year. He's going to get the cats and take them to his farm where they can eat mice in his barn.

At any rate, I'm not worried about my karma either ... we're dog people (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I'm really hoping this trapper guy catches Mama too ... worst thing about these feral cats is that the litter was originally 6 and there's only 3 left (so 3 either froze or fed the local coyote population). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) They don't get mama and there will be more fuzzy little guys to suffer. Seriously a .22 to the side of the head is much more humane than being ripped apart and eaten alive by a 'yote.

Cats are by nature, solitary animals. They normally don't live in cat groups unless they are kittens. Once momma feels they are old enough to fend for themselves she will boot them out by rejecting them. When the cat is domesticated, they actually become developmentally frozen at kitten in their heads. This is why they want to kneed on you and lick. They think you are the momma. Many are developmentally both kitten and adult, in that they think of you as momma and, if they go outside and encounter other cats - they are hostile toward each other. The exception is when a female is in heat and even that is pretty much a hostile act.It could well be that the other kittens have moved outward to seek their own territory.

I know what you mean about the coyotes though... When I was at Edwards AFB the coyotes used to come down the street at night carrying a cat or small dog they had snagged live in their mouths. They grab them and drag them away alive and then rip them apart as a group.

I've seen wild cats take on a hunting dog and win the fight more than once. Both walked away alive, albeit the dog with a lot less hair and blood.

In fact, i've seen a wild boar take on a pack of hunting dogs and the boar killed two of the dogs before it got shot.

And i've seen a cornered badger wound a hunting dog so badly that it had to be put down.

Wild animals are just that, wild. They will fight anything, if cornered.

Yeah, I don't hunt with hounds anymore. I only have one left alive and he's 12 years old. I was fortunate to have a veterinarian for a dad when things went wrong. Never had a dog die from fighting, though. Smart dogs, keep game at bay, overly aggressive dogs get in a fight with the critter. Smart dogs still get hurt when said critter charges, however. It's hard to train a dog to keep game at bay without getting injured. Hounds used for boar, bear or cougar learn quick or they don't tend to live long.

Clay,

Buzz looks like Maine Coon Cat. No Photoshop needed--they get up to 65 lbs. and are very smart.

Dave

Ummm Dave, as a Maine Coon owner (former), them max out at 25 pounds unless you forcefeed them a side of beef.

However, they are extremely territorial and will fight anything. I've seem my cat clawed to the back of a howling German Sheherd running down the street, only to find him bloodied up & needing another trip o the vet. Wierd thing is, he liked the floppy eared bunny next door. They played like buddies. But woe be it to any other animal in vision. My vet bills were horrendous, but I'll get another. They just don't normally get THAT big.

Whatever Buzz is......he needs to lose a lot of pounds!

Though I am not a friend of PETA, they do have members that trap, treat, neuter & release ferals. May want to give them a shot (no pun).

Buzz is half Maine Coon, and he is only (only? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) ) 20lbs. The vet says he is healthy, other than the diabetes. But he is physically a LARGE cat, and quite strong. It is a good thing he is gentle and not prone to anger otherwise I would be a bloody mess. But I have seen him mad (not at me). He tried to go through our back window one day when the neighbor's cat came around. He almost shattered the window!

Yea, he needs to lose a little weight. But YOU can be the one to tell the 20LB cat walking on top of you at 7 am that he is not hungry.

I was always a dog person, would have never had a cat.. then I married someone with a cat... a year later we rescued another cat from a shelter... that cat has slept beside me in any chair, bed or couch I get on. he's as affectionate as a dog, without all the licking (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) and him and my beagle will take naps together.. he's not tiny either, btw (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Since we live just 3 blocks from The Garden of the Gods (which is connected to Pike National Forest) we get a LOT of wildlife in our neighborhood. These little guys probably wouldn't make it to 2 years old if they don't get trapped.

Now I hate to hijack this thread with an irrelevant car question, but does anyone have a suggestion for a good outdoor cover for under $50?
