I have been trying to find a good way to display without opening the packages. I bought some poster frame and cut to length to get this:

Anybody have any better ideas? I would lke to display the car name too, but the poster frame method will not allow.

I buy two so I can open one for display and store the other for posterity. I got to be able to handle them.

Hmm, I dont think I have a GT2. Or do I? Which one? The 2nd opened car from the right is a GT3 matchbox.

And I hear ya doc, I open any I can get duplicates of. Be interested to see how everybody is displaying opened and unopened cars.

I think your idea is the best I have seen, though. Pretty clever. I intend to build a multi-tiered display rack, kind of like the ones you see people displaying golf balls on. That way I can have a nice looking peice of furniture and still be able to display my small collection. Right now they are on top of the TV cabinet......and I am running out of room.

What good is a toy you can't play with? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'm going out today to look for another so I can't rip open the package on the second. I don't yet have enough to worry about displaying them. They're currently hanging from the wire shelf on my desk.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) You have it figured out Elliot! (Except my 914 goes pblbpbblpbppt) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I messed around with this case a bit tonight. It is going to be a fun thing to keep up with! Except I have to put it out in the garage.... :nails: (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

I went to Home Depot and bought some plastic "rails" that attach the tub surround to the wall. I then attached one to the wall right next to the ceiling, and another one just far enough down the wall so the matchbox packaging fits in the grooves. Now my hobby room has a border around the ceiling of nice, not bent, unopened matchbox packages.

I will post pictures later...

As soon as I get a spare moment on a weekend that doesn't involve shoveling out from a blizzard i'm gonna trundle on down to IKEA #1 in Conshohocken and pick up one of these:

Search IKEA .com for 'detolf' -- $60.

I have no matchbox to speak of but I have a bunch of 1:43...

old thread - just noticed

i buy a lot of mostly 1/43 & matchbox size models on eBay - no boxes in many cases cuz the old cars are old & lost & sometime kid toys -

strictly for nostalgia - no illusions about collectible value

(S.O. rightly says stuff like this only ends up in dumpster when we die)

display space is at a premium - and S.O. has rules

- my quest is to have one of each interesting car i remember owning & in the colors i owned - 46 so far, since 2011 -

case is from Franklin Mint longer ago - case is 24x13x6, mirror back
(about max'd now): - i'll buy a larger model only if can't find small one, & replace it with a small one, if/when i find it

if i do get boxes & such i put 'em folded into a big carton in storage "for someday"

My 6 year old destroy every match box/hot wheels car I get. I would have to buy 3....one to save and 2 to hopefully last long enough.
