I just finshed a fiberglass passenger door "skin" for a fellow member. It does not have the inner section as you can see. Also there is no provision for mounting to the hinges. I mounted mine with Dsuz fittings pop riveted to in the door jam. Or you can use the stock door frame and bond the skin to it to be able use the hinges. This one weighs in a five (5) pounds on the bathroom scale. Next one I do will be 3-4 pounds, but one or two pounds isn't a big deal.

BTW, a stock door with the glass removed is in the 30-40 pound range depending on early or late, door handle or not.

Anybody want one?

Paul

Eric,
I already had the mold from when I made my own doors. But this one took longer than it should have. If I needed to I could get one out in a week to two.

PS: Very sharp eye, yes my wife's Jetta. Don't know the model (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) , it's blue. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I like how you smoothed out where the door handle would be.

A stripped stock door can be less than 30-40 lbs...

?

I thought I weighed mine in at 12 or 17 or something... WITH HINGES.

but I have to say.. that does look like very nice work...

The extra bracing in a late door weighs in at 15lbs (I cut one out and weighed it)

Good job Paul. It turned out nice.

I started with an early door...
plus I cut all of the door panel/regulator and mounting stuff away... plus I drilled 15 or so holes in it (3.5 inch holes in the bottom)...

I'll reskin the door panel in aluminum and fold it to close off the window chanels....

so I guess 12 lbs is only with a bit of work... but hey the vintage out here requires metal not glass.

Thanks, everyone.
The key of course is the mold. If the mold is right the work on the finished piece is minimal.
