So my latest build is a '75 Appearance Group car.
Car is currently in the body shop being stripped to bare metal.
Motor and tranny were just rebuilt...

going for a retro look.
Rivs, Porsche negative side stripe, Monza exhaust, Vittaloni mirrors and a few interior items to keep it '70s (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

got a load of stuff from MikeK (914magazine) today.
4 very nice Rivs
2.0L heat exchangers with associated heater stuff
Monza exhaust
2.0L muffler hanger
Koni front struts
spare trigger points
Custom pedal board
original grain vinyl for the sail panels and targa bar

here are some pics of the stuff.
first pic is one of the heater tubes media blasted
second pic is tube final product.
entire exhaust system will be done the same.
Pic of one of the Rivs I did a quick polish with power ball and aluminum polish..
black paint on the Rivs is perfect, just needs to be cleaned and waxed.

here are a couple of pics of stuff that will be media blasted by myself tomorrow and then painted by me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)


The point of this car is to build a daily driver that looks period correct, and to be a PAX weapon in the GGR AX series. Even with a very moderate suspension package I will be in AX 16 which will give me a very nice multiplication factor for TTOD. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

how do you like the tires so far? i need some new shoes and have a narrow 74 with stock fuchs and want to get something that sticks really well.
also, care to share your source for those seat covers?

tires are 205x50x15s. Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Z1 200WR but seem to be much better than that in the stick department...have read some information saying that the tread wear rating should probably be closer to 100 like some lower level DOT Rs.
I have really been impressed with the Dunnys so far...I have driven on just about every DOT R available in the last 20 years along with Goodyear slicks.
While not in the territory of tires like Kumho V710s or Hoosier A6s, these are a very good compromise tire. They have performed very well with my suspension setup at AX so far.
On my previous car I ran V710s on custom 7" wheels under stock fenders along with a set of early Hankook Z212s on Fuchs...
2 events since the car was completed, and I finished at least 2 seconds in front of my next closest class competitor. One time it was a 944 on 7&8s with Hoosier A6s and the second time was against a 74 2.0L 914 running Nitto NT01s.
Finished 4th place overall and 3rd overall with our PAX index in the two events the car has run...planning a full on attack for 1st in PAX next season....
This car was built specifically to compete in the class that gave me maximum multiplication factor in our PAX indexes.

closeup....car looks pretty good
and it doesn't have to look like all the other 914s with early bumpers.
The big bumpers are really starting to grow on me, and I don't have to worry about them rusting (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

thanks for the thread- really enjoyed it! , on the subject of seats, you could go this direction, but takes some modifications. I put in these 911 seats/996 , several other guys have too. just a thought as you are considering your options.
The back pad i ordered from morph, new fiberglass core with 1/8'' foam, new black vinyl , seats sit back in fine with no interference since the stock foam is not on there, thought about just covering the back firewall with carpet but this way looks better.(dont have a picture of that now, will post if you care...)

time to find some seats or seat covers and a dash cover...probably be my post Christmas/birthday present... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/santa_smiley.gif)

would love to find a pair of Corbeau Classic IIs but will probably end up going with a set of the black/grey Iggee seat covers.

Hey car looks great! Just had one question for ya, what was your suspension setup on your orange car? Cuz it does'nt look like the same setup you got on the white one. Good job on everything.

Phoenix Red '74 had 21 mm front torsion bars, 19mm sway bar, 180# rear springs
Front and rear custom valved Bilsteins. Car ride height set very low running about -2* camber in front and about -2.25* in rear.
Track duty on custom 7" steel rims running 205x50x15 Kumho V710s (very wide, almost a 225 in reality)
Grand Prix White '75 running stock front bar, with stock torsion bars, rear 140# springs. Adjustable Konis front and rear and sitting quite a bit higher. -1.25* camber in front and -1.50* camber in rear.

5 polished 4 bolt Fuchs showed up at my door this morning. They have been sitting bagged for several years so they all need some detailing and some polishing but not bad for the price... Good enough for street wheels.
A good friend from GGR TT/DE series converted his car to a 3.2L with GT flares and 5 bolt hubs several years ago...these have been sitting in his garage taking up space...he asked me if I wanted them....of course I said yes. These will work perfectly for street tires in the 205x60 or 195x65 size once I decide on a tire...have also thought of just going old school with a set and doing 165s for the street.
The Fuchs also came with 4 decent factory center caps....actually 3 of them are excellent...so I may do some swapping of center caps with my current 4 to get the best of the best.

Also received 2 7x16 Original Fuchs from same fellow.
These will probably be sold off to help pay for the street tires.
What is a decent pair of 7x16s worth these days?

since I have a set of polished Fuchs for my AX/street tires now,
what should I use for my strictly street tires?

Here are the choices....both are in my possession, so it is a wash for me. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

some more of the Polished Fuchs (yes I have 9 of them (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )
or some more retro Riv repops?

I like both but the Rivs pop due to the black. I'd use the Rivs for a season and then switch it up next season if they don't suit yer fancy.

so recently I have been thinking more about the rear visibility on my car. I have already done a high mounted 3rd brake light that can be seen in this thread 3rd brake light
After replacing my tail light lenses with some brand new repops....I decided it was time to do a little something with the inside of the tail light housing itself....
These things were never too reflective to begin with since it was just a silver (looks like paint) coating over plastic...
So I was thinking about how to make the housing more reflective...

Aluminum Foil Tape....did a quick job and it makes quite a bit of difference.
Short of having the guts of the lights "plastic chrome plated" I thought this might help.
First pic is what it looked like before I put on the tape. From what I have gleaned in other posts on this matter, most of our old housings look like this.

No flash on the pic...the light you see is just from the running lights, no brake lights lit.

made quite a bit of difference with a little reflection going on and not just relying on the light of the bulb itself (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Thats impressive Dan. Way to think outside the box. Are those normal bulbs or are they LED's?

For right now I am pretty satisfied with the amount of light.
