I was wondering if anyone in Houston knew where to get parts for the 914 besides BAP-GEON? Ive been using them the past couple of weeks but they dont always have the parts i need. Just seeing what other people are getting their parts from locally, im looking for a head temp sensor. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Bap is great, if you are a beetle guy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) j/k if they have it, VW places are the place to go if it's the same part....

as far as "local" nope. I'd start with Eric at PMB, bdstone, Johnathan at GPR, or other member vendors(always my first choice), then go to pelican, paragon(closest thing to local, in corpus) and the rest of the usual suspects. Zims is in Dallas too, but their stock on 914 specific parts is sometimes hit or miss

what do you need specifically? that makes a big difference (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

These cars are so old now that they have become specialists cars, meaning people who specifically deal in parts and service for them. I do not know anyone any more dedicated than the vendors who advertise on this particular site and by all means they should be supported.
They will be glad to hear from you, know everything about the cars, and not give you a nasty scowl like the guys at the part counter selling rice burner parts! PLUS if you really need a part you can get it the next day along with a little on the phone advice.
Here for example if you say: I want to purchase a starter for my 914, we will not say ok and send it, but rather: Why do you think that you need a starter? Knowing that there are many other things that can cause a starter to misfunction, and the last thing that WE need to do is send you a part that you do not need.
That is one of the many problems of ordering on line: you may order something you do not need!

For VW parts like that temp sensor try Kermit at karparts.net. That's the old ASK auto parts, now on Greens Road. They're just aircooled VW, but if they don't have it should be able to get it quickly. Prices are about same as BAP-Geon, but they'll usually have it on the shelf (even if they get it from BAP) and Kermit's a nice guy and always ready to help. The guys at BAP get it right about one time in every three.

Yeah most of my luck has been online, i was just seeing if there are local places so i can have the part now haha! Il check out all those recomendations on parts you gave me, i only know a couple but im just getting into the 914. Id agree with you on Zims, had to wait almost 2 months for a master cylinder. I looking for a head temp sensor seeing as how my car was running good when it started cold then starting running pretty bad when it got warmed up.

I agree with you 100%, sometimes i dont want to call parts counter places because it takes forever to get what you need. Thanks for the advice.

Last I saw, the 914 HT sensors were still available from OEM/OES mfgrs.

For that HT sensor specifically - George/Dr914 at AA, Perfromance & Pelican & some others online do carry it, but there's the time delay or order in advance of need issue online.

Plus if it's still stocked by Porsche (as with other parts), they can get it for you - although usually as a backorder item. If you're a PCA member, they have 20% off parts at the dealers nationwide until 3/31.

Otherwise, your local guys above have the line.

When I lived in Baytown, I was a block away from ASK. They had two stores. Kermit's wife ran the one there and he ran the one in Houston. Good knowledgeable people. If you see Kermit, tell him Mark Heard said hi.
