"Real" Bosch is not what you think. Bosch subcontracts to rebuilders in the US. While they have to meet certain standards, they don't go back to Germany for rebuilding.
The other independent / production rebuilders are the ones that are guilty of the long stud that shorts to the cover. Just be aware of it. A little thought, some blood and swearing and you can change your own alternator. |

They should at least have some standards to have them built by. The rebuilt Bosch I got even sounded different. |

Buy the bosch and have it tested before you put it in. You don't want to do that job more than once if you can avoid it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) and I have to also agree with the Cap'n. |

Not mentioned that you have this or not, but place NO LED light in the alternator trouble light on the dash. This will stop the alternator from charging.

If you just did your dash lights with LEDs, change the Alternator light back, it would be the problem. Ask me how I know. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Thanks for all the responses guys! At this point, they did test the alternator, and it is bad :'(
They also re-checked a price for a VR and realized its $50 less. Woohoo! So, I'm just going to pay them and get it over with. Sadly, I still have the linkage (and maybe tires) to do before its even road worthy, hopefully thats not another 500 dollar bill... |
