If you notice there is a dimple on the edge of the hole. It acts as a stop for the tabs when the cap rotates.

And since they didn't dip the chassis in paint, i think the spot welders is the better choice ...

No dipping as far as I know or we wouldn't be dealing with the rust issues we have with these cars.

I'd have to disagree with the dipping...of any kind. For that to be the case the car would have to be dipped with the longs not welded in, then the heater hoses attached, then the outer long welded on. Welding after dipping would mean grinding paint around the area where the weld of the outer longs would take place. It would also negate the reason for dipping in the first place, which is to get to areas you can't normally get to once the frame/body is assembled. Also, dipping is not perfect. In other words, paint flows off the frame once it's pulled from the tank. We would undoubtedly see some small runs from the dip process and I've yet to ever see them on a 914.

Crazy busy with work stuff but the muffler heat sheild arrived today! Thanks Paul!

Now when I get some time I can finish welding in the trunk floor. I'm thinking about buy a Tig first. I think it would be the perfect tool to complete the butt weld without disturbing the spot welds. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) Limited heat spread.

Ok fellas, I had an inquiry about this car and thought I would bump it with an update. I just ordered the #47 Tartan kit for the interior. Thanks to Mark and 914Rubber.com This interior will scream outrageousness! I know it's a 74 fabric but I couldn't resist! It's the first one of the samples. If you notice there is a dash pattern of the color in the fabric.
