I have my motor sitting on the floor and I'm trying to start it, with a strong battery the starter can't get it spinning fast enough to start. The tranny is in gear and i think thats the problem, how do I get it into neutral?

The gear selector will also move up and down freely which is the play for neutral...

Are you using jumper cables to try to start it?

I'm using a strong battery with one of those battery chargers and I took the belt off the alternator. Any advice? Also I found neutral but its weird, I can spin the CVs by hand and the motor doesn't turn over, but while still in neutral when I hit the starter the CV's still spin.

Again, are you using jumper cables, from your battery to the starter?

No, sorry I misunderstood you. I pulled the actual cables from the car.

It's normal for the trans output flanges to turn when in neutral , the is no weight from the car on the suspension holding the cv / axle shafts / wheels and tires in place . You didn't mention if the motor was rebuilt or not , running before the motor pull , what condition of tune , carbs or stock f inection. More info will get a bigger picture.

Good, just checking. I've seen others try to use jumpers and they never work for that.
