I need a thorough PPI performed on 73' 2.0 supposedly in excellent condition. Time is of the essence...as usual. Anyone in NE and how much should I expect to pay for this and does anyone have a checklist that would help? email is bill@ruppertcompanies.com

We can do it but Newport is about 2 hours away and the car would have to be brought here.
2-3 hours required for a thorough inspection, price $160-240.

Chris - let me talk to the seller and get his reaction. I'm in MD so I'd need him to make the trip. Thanks for the response and I'll get back to you. Bill

Bill, your best bet is to see if he'll head out to Chris' place, since that's the best inspection you can get in the area. If the seller isn't willing to make the trip to CT but will make the trip to boston MA metro west (an hour ride with no traffic), here's a few places that can do a good PPI:

Framingham, ma: Rensport. Ask for Rene. He's the owner and an awesome guy.

Needham, MA: Vara's garage. I can literally walk to this place from my house. he works on lots of aircooleds. Owner's name is Maurizio.

Natick, MA: epe performance. Came highly recommended by a buddy, but i'm not sure their experience with aircooleds -- give a call to find out.

good luck with the car!

Shine Racing in North Attleboro MA is an option. IIRC they did the Grassroots Motorsports Magazine project 914 engine build ~10 yrs ago.

Inskip Porsche in Warwick RI is generally not my cup of tea but the head tech there has ~35 yrs pcar experience. This would be only ~25 min from newport.

Just my .02

Dick Shine knows plenty about 914s but I doubt any of his techs have a clue about them. They specialize in watercooled VWs.
