I'm trying to pull a front swaybar and there just doesn't seem to be a way to do it, other than force the square end through the bushing which will likely destroy the bushing in the process. am I missing something here?

remove the bushing cover plate and then the bushing; you will have to pass the bushing over the square end of the bar.
