I have mixed feelings whenever I see a 914 pop up in LeMons. At least it's better than going straight to the crusher.

We came in 68th with our '69 Opel GT, "Team Tinyvette." There were two 914s there, and the other one (a Gulf 917 look-alike) had quite a few mechanical problems. I saw his carbs off at least twice...

Trekkor was there, too, in his Escort. Hopefully he'll become active on this board again fixing up his 914.

Lotsa fun. Our transmission locked up 45 minutes into the race, and we had the spare in and the car back on track within 75 minutes. But we black-flagged three times in the next two hours and parked the car for the final 4 hours on Saturday. We steadily climbed back up the ranks on Sunday, but we were so far back that we were: 1) glad to have finished (running!), and 2) happy to finish mid-pack.

We plan to go for the early December Lemons at Buttonwillow with the miniture 'Vette again. We're hoping for a low residual value rating so we can be allowed to put some money into making it a tad faster (a cam to boost high-rev power and spend some time tuning the engine).

Someone raced a CRX time machine modeled after the Doc Brown design! Awesome. Hope they didn't make it to 88 mph during the race- think time travel during an event would somehow disqualify them . . .

That 914 linked from Jalopnik was pitted next to us. Family from La Honda, CA, IIRC. Didn't sound like it was running right, they did a lot of valve adjustment.

The Gulf 914 is Mitch Parella from Albany, CA. He has a muffler shop up there, and I've seen him on the Melee and some of the other vintage runs around the Bay Area.

I had my 914 parked in our pit too - we were expecting some $500 offers for it, but no dice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yeah, when I drove in the gate on Friday evening, I saw your teener and said to myself "yeah, right -- there's NO WAY anyone got a teener like that for $500!" But when I sauntered over to get a closer look, I realized your car wasn't entered into the race and quickly subdued my misplaced doubt. Never got a chance to talk to you about your Suby conversion, since I'm doing one of those myself and wanted to pick your brain.
