I’m looking for a complete number set from a wrecked or dead 914-6 like
VIN from the RF fender, Chassis number from the rear trunk, ID-Plate from the RF light box and the Karmann badge from the left door. If you have only single parts please let me know |

If I might ask, what is the purpose of buying the ID numbers off a dead six?

If I might ask, what is the purpose of buying the ID numbers off a dead six? ... you could "upgrade" your 914-4 to a "real /6" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) |

Well at least I am not the only one with a suspicious mind. I mean of someone actually obtained all of the VIN's they could possibly represent a non-six chassis as a true six chassis. I am NOT saying that it was the OP was thinking, etc. I am just saying I have that kind of suspicious mind.
Perhaps he was going to make some sort of metal art sculpture dedicated to one of the best cars in the world, (IMHO) the six, to be displayed at the Louvre.... |

It is technically illegal to remove any VIN # plates from a chassis. You could buy a whole chassis, but cutting the numbers off is not legal. This has been an issue, even on cars that have been restored by original owners, cops have seized cars for the rivets not matching originals...
Be careful with this kind of stuff. |

He is in Germany, not the US. Might have the similar laws but might not.

Guys,
I will explain it..... I collect over many years 6er stuff, also VIN's etc. But I have not a complete set with all possible numbers. This is the reason for this add. The most I have are the Karmann badges and the RF light box plate. In Germany you can cut off any number but can't transfer it to an other chassis. The only exception is you have you car wrecked and build it new on a new and orignal chassis without any number. For this way you need all the paperwork from the wrecked car/ new chassis. The number can only transfered with a confimation of an authorized organisation like TÜV. I'm more than 25 years in the German 914 scene and the most of the German 914 drivers know me or I know they. You can be sure that the VIN etc. never put in a 4 to 6er conversion. |

Wilco, Thanks for the update as I thought it would be out of charactor for you to do what was suspected.
There was much uproar when George put in one his ads a Vin# & Title a couple of years ago. Also the previous numb-nuts owner of my Six was going to cut out the numbers and put them on a rust-free 71 -4 Tub. It would have been a lot easier than my rustoration, but I would hate to see anyone taken advantage of a swap, no matter how well the job was done. T.C. |
