Is there anybody out there who gives the Eric Shea treatment to early 911/914-6 Bosch or Marelli distributors? That is, someone who doesn't just rebuild them but also turns them into distributor porn? A quick check here, on the Bird Board and on Google didn't turn up any obvious hits. I keep my eye on Bosch distributors which go up on eBay (I still have a Marelli on my /6), and while most are described something like, "unit is solid and shaft has no free play," quite frankly most of them look like they were used as dog chew toys in a previous life.

Barry rebuilt mine and did not do the work as quoted. He was suppose to recurve to S as per Bruce Anderson. Came back as a stock 01 curve. When I called him on it I got all sorts of back peddling etc.
I would use either Aaron Burnham or the guy here in Sandy, UT (having a brain fart right now). He does all of the 356 and VW dizzys and is "excellent". Ed Fall I think is his name. I took my 01 over to Ed's place where we checked the curve. He's the one who told me nothing had been done to it by Barry... |

I have had 3.0 distributors rebuilt by Barry Hershon and Jerry Woods. Cost was about the same ( $500.00 ) but phone conversations were much better with Jerry. Nice guy to deal with and seemed like he knew what he was doing. Barry knows what he is doing ( I think ) but was not very pleasant to deal with. And he went way over on time to perform the service. But both distributors perform so I can't complain about the end results.

Aaron Burns built me up a new twin plug distributor out of a 3.0 core
the core turned brand new and amazing. I'm sure he could do a restore as a stand alone also, I just don't know anything about pricing. I believe Supertec does distributor rebuilds too and the supertec motor I received was "shay worthy" all new plating all new hardware... so I would expect a distributor from them to be perfect. brant |
