So we finally solved the charging issue and started driving the car. after about 30 minutes or so of driving the tach will start to become erratic. U can hear an almost miss while the car is idleing, im not sure if its missing but if u keep driving under hard acceleratio an the car wont go thru the rev range smoothly. Sitting at a stop light at idle the tach will read 900 then jump down to about 600 or so and keep doing this till u accelerate. But it will get worse the longer you drive the car. The engine is a 1.7L dual carbs and a pertronix ignitor 2. The best way to describe the accelration issue is like having points and the points arent adjusted correctly, the car just wont idle or accelerate properly after the oil gets to about 140, when the oil was 180 the acceleration was really bad. Any ideas? I was thinking fouled plugs l, maybe get new spark plug wires

I would suggest trying to find a shop that knows 914s and that can put the car on a dyno to tune the carbs, timing, etc. If not possible then I would suggest a shop with at least a very accurate A/F tester and that can also read exhaust temps, plugs, etc and then adjust things. Why you might ask to spend all that $$$$? Well it will save a HUGE amount of time and worry and keep you from throwing parts at it and since your car sounds really nice and this IS driving weather with the top off I would want to get it fixed and right the 1st time.
