Thank you! That really helps to confirm the gearbox number range I should be looking for.

I found a motor of a 1971 sixer (6410XXX). According to Porsche records it came out of 9141430226.
There was an ad in 1983 Panorama :
see attachment
A couple of month ago I wrote a letter to Mr.Lehr and gave him this information, but never got an answer !
Attached Image
Does anybody happen to know the owner or vehicle ?

Very nice that you took the time and effort to try to unite that car/owner with the original engine. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif)

Hi all,
A post on the bird board got me thinking about compiling a list of "out of car"
factory engines and that we might be able to help some of these engines find their way back to the original chassis.
So,here is the place to post those 640/641 engine serial numbers out floating around. I think serial number and last whereabout should be good.If you have an engine for sale, post in the f/s section and I will copy it to the list or you can add it.
Thanks,
John

P.s.Thanks to Pat G. for the sticky

All,

I am new to the 914 World forum. I am a long time 914-6 enthusiast! I own 914-6 chassis #9140432353. It is missing its original engine and gearbox. The original motor number was 6405532. Porsche doesn't have the original gearbox number recorded. I would be interested in finding the original motor. Any help or leads would be appreciated! On the gearbox, if anyone would know around what gearbox number I should be looking for it would also be appreciated.

Thank You!
Freeman Thomas

Freeman,

I own 9140432347 with engine #6400818 and gearbox #7502325, both original to the car. It's a euro spec six which explains the engine number, but the gearboxes, to my knowledge, were all the same. My VIN and gearbox numbers are 22 digits apart. Hope that helps you a bit. Welcome to the club. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png)

Looking for engine 6405225. Believed to have swapped engines with a yellow 914/6 by a mechanic named Rich Camacho who had a shop in the in SF Bay area. I have the original engine to that car which is 6404377.

I was poking around in the barn and checked the numbers on an engine that I bought in the late 1970s to use to convert out first 914-4 to a six which I never did. I was told at the time that it came out of a 911t and it had 911 heater boxes an tin on it. The engine has been sitting under the workbench since. It is a 901/36, serial number 6405282 and located in Vermont.
