Hello Everyone,
A few months ago I decided to rebuild my 73/1.7 914. My goal is to repair the rust issues, upgrade to 5 lugs, convert to 6 cylinder & flares and body work. I would like to know if anybody would be interested in helping me with this project. This can be a learning experience for anyone that might be thinking of doing such a project themselves but might not feel they have the knowlegde or experience to get the job done. This would be a great way for us to brainstorm ideas and processes and learn how to rebuild a 914. Obviously, I would provide everything for this car but it would be great to have some help and other opinions with the ability for some on- hands learning. Let me know what you guys think? i'd be happy to lend you the use of my shop for building up the engine and misc. sub assemblies, but i don't think it's of much use up here way north of you (modesto).
i'm in between projects (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) mike |

I am in Long Beach and would be interested in lending a hand whenever I can. Would be good experience for when I start shopping for a 914 myself.

Ed - I'm doing something very similar and my car needs much of the same rust repair as yours. I put together some rough numbers for parts to convert to a 3.2 six. Can be done cheaper or more expensive. I want heat so that ads ~ 2K to the cost. Just parts, no labor or shipping. Shipping for all the parts is over 1K and labor is yet to be determined. Good luck - Mark

Thanks eveyone for the help and the information.
I am planning on taking a look at another car this weekend and having my current car be the donor car. It sounds like this car might be in better shape than mine. Check it out http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=111307 Ed |

Also consider an already converted car with flares and a six. There's been some nice ones for sale as low as 15K. Much cheaper than doing it yourself. Then you can part your car and make back some $.
