What's the horsepower rating or torque rating on the Suby box? Has anyone used on with a V8?

Usually anything with over 375 ft lbs of torque on a 2.5 suby is pushing your luck with awd on a suby on stock gears. Course thats with about 28-32 wide inches of rubber contact patch with street tires. The story is the case may try to spread inbetween the shafts with big torque and or the input or main shaft flexes. What I've read is the true strength on a tranny is the distance between the shafts as it allows for bigger diameter gears and therefore stronger gears. Probably the audi is a better choice for the good v8's. The suby 2.5 doesn't have the low end torque like a v8 so in a suby the torque builds in the higher rpms and the car is already moving.

Well, in a light car you don't need the low end any way. building a motor that revs quickly is what's needed. I've successfully run the 901 with a 327 now for a long time and it's okay with my 320HP or so as long as I don't do burn outs.
Taller gears with wider spacing is a plus and that starts absorb some of the torque. So, I'm curious about ratios compared to the 901 and adaptability to the V8 installation. Anybody tried this set up? |

The suby tranny was a nice choice for us using a suby for power and the $$.. Its cheap.. However because of all the rally support you can get into porsche world type pricing in a heart beat. Custom gears, LSD, sequential type shifting etc etc..
I saw both as a benifit but right now Im taking advantage of cheap power and nice shifting. I agree that the boxster or audi tranny is you best bet.. Still cheap, can handle the power and the I think the adapter plates been built.. |

The 012 and Boxster gearbox was rated by Getrag at 380nm
http://www.getrag.de/en/241 Sorry that is only 280 lb-ft. That is really no more than the 901. The benefit there is new synchros and cable shifter. The AWD box is rated at 450nm which is 331lb-ft. The 6MTL650T is rated at 650 NM which is 479lb-ft. I am not sure if that is the G50 or if it is the gear box from the C2/C4. |
