Any suggestions on the best place to get a carpet set close to the factory original look? I'm making the assumption that factory originals are no longer available. I have a 1973 2.0 appearance group car with a black interior but the tired existing carpets look more grey than black at this point.

Any thoughts would be very helpful.

Thanks,

John

We have the exact factory carpeting from Porsche nos on the shelf but it is expensive. The alternative is a perfect cut set that looks very close but does not have as much "hair" coming off of the loops. It is 245. Cannot get much closer than this stuff.

I have a ´73 1.7 which has the original interior. I purchased this car new and have never needed to replace the carpet. Many of the ¨factory replacement¨ kits which I have see are not a match with what I have. Get a fabric sample before you commit to purchase if originally is important to you.

In addition to the above sources, you might also try:

http://smsautofabrics.com/
http://www.autosintl.com/

The online picture of the Loop carpet kit from 914 Appearance and Performance, http://www.914ap.com/, appears to be the same as what my car has. This is not to say of course others might also have a very satisfactory replacement.

Nice to meet another original owner!

I echo your sentiments - no aftermarket kits can mach the original (guess it's a cost issue, but the makers should suck it up & cost it appropriately.

I've always protected my carpet, since it is the item most subject to misuse. Proud that mine is original & nearly faultless. No shoes have been allowed for over 30 years.

Even if the carpet is close to factory, check to see if the piping around the border is correct. Have not seen any of the aftermarket kits with the medium grey piping on them.

Non factory carpeting (material and or the piping) sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

Simple! Put them on yur lap!

My carpet is 100% factory original, and spotless. I intend to keep it that way until I part with the car.

I recently went to a 914 event and people & thier kids were crawing all over 914's they didn't own, without asking if it was OK. I find this just dead wrong. My 914 is like a child to me, since I've had it for 38 years. If you want to get in mine, you ask first & remove your shoes. It's mine & I make the rules.
