So I go to the forum, I see about 20 new topics with new posts, I click on the first one, read it, go back to the forum, and all the topics are now marked as read. This happens frequently.

How do I prevent it?

This is on IE6-SP1.

BTW, I occasionally have the same problem on the Pelican forum.

Try to see if you are logged in both before and after this happens. Could be a cookie problem.

I never log in/log out. Would that be better for the cookies to keep track of things?

I'm not sure that would help though because the last time it happened (a few minutes ago) all the topics turned to read status mid session.

That's what I was wondering, if you really were logged in or not.

Actually, I've had the same thing occur but haven't complained about it yet. You should report this on the "Feature Request and Classified's Problems" forum. I doubt the tech-weenies that run this board even know what a 914 is. :finger2:

(and on the 8th day God created sarcasm, yeah, sure he did)

Here is how I fixed it....

I check my email first to see if anybody responded to the topic I was subscribed too and follow the link from the email.

I pay NO attention to the read/not read color changes.

I dont even notice them until somebody brings it up.

My guess is: the board and the browser dont play well together. These .php boards are mostly built by Unix guy's that hate Microsoft... so to even view this with IE6SP1... I'm happy.

IE6 sucks. get mosaic (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

brad's right. the php + the mysql work OK on a UNIX box,
but we're running it off a windows nt box. it seems to have
some minor hick-ups now and then. my problem is that it
sometimes "forgets" what topics i have looked at already.
go figure. i looked at the cookie related code and it's a mess.

I've been using the board with both Mozilla and Inernet Expolder 6.0.26 and both of them show the read/unread highlighting correctly. It's got to be an account problem because I can move from computer to computer and my read/unread tracking follows me.

Mine does that from time to time, but not all the time, too.

Yes, Ben Messinger in the baby-blue 914, it follows me pretty well from when I'm wasting time at work to when I'm wasting time at home. It just seems to burp once in a while. Not too big of a deal to me, I can chalk it up to Microsoft weirdness; but poor Anthony is about to join a convent over it.
