Looks pretty clean for an East Coast car. ScottyB (Professional repair) is in your area along with a bunch of other 914 people. Restoration Design has all the panels you need. Just some cutting and welding.

If it has personal value to you and you dont mind spending 2-5x what's it's worth - fix it.
1 Learn to weld
2 Have friend weld
3 Hire Scott

If you just want a nice teener to drive, part it, set aside 10K and buy a great car out west.

Bag and tag all the parts you take out so they go back together easier when you get it done. I tagged every wire in the harness so I have a fighting chance. Save your money, sell stuff you don't need on ebay, get a 2nd job.

I'm thinking about purchasing a big compressor, soda and sand blast equipment, needle scaler, rotisserie, ect. to make a paint and rust removal station for my white car and other teeners in the local area who want to strip car for rust repair and paint. Resonable fee to bring cars over and use equipment. I live in the woods so noise and dust isn't an issue. Car could then be sprayed with an etch primer or washed with a product like PickleX. Then car would be safe from future rust while waiting for rust repair and paint.

Thinking about it...

Funny - my (new to me) white car looks alot like yours.

Look at any of my hell hole repair threads or the pics on my website and you'll see what you are in for. Your car will need to be seriously braced before removing any metal. If you want to repair the car, gut it, get the tar boards out of the floor and take a wire brush to the floor pan inside and out along the back edge. This will tell you where your floor pan is. I can guarantee you, you will need and engine tray, upper and lower wheelhouse, inner rocker, jack post and support, jacking triangle. May possibly need a floor pan section, lower firewall, suspension console and engine mount as well. It's hard to tell form pics, and even in person it WILL get worse than it appears to be. Sounds like 3 of them I've done this year, not including yours. Typical east coast/ rust belt situation. I will say his engine shelf is one of the worst I've seen. Typically the rear section of it is o.k. .....not this one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif) Nice hole around the jack post too, that let's the water soaked acorns dry out quicker (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Scotty is right, there is alot more than meets the eye on the surfaces.

FWIW, I'm going to be cutting up a 74 with alot more rust this weekend.
If you have an interest to see the hell hole and rocker dissected, you welcome to come on over. The first hand view may give you a better perspective before getting into yours.
