Ok, I'm stumped. Changed the fuel lines in the tunnel with steel brake lines, new high pressure rubber lines everywehre else. Car wouldn't start. switched the two hoses in engine bay. Car runs, but has very high fuel pressure. adjustment at regulator makes no difference. Switched with known good regulator. no difference. What the heck did I do wrong?
Thanks in advance. 75 2.0 djet |

The return line could be plugged. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Just a guess, though.

When you replaced the rubber lines under the gas tank you kinked/pinched the return line?

QUOTE(vsg914 @ Apr 28 2004, 01:39 PM) Nope, nothing is kinked or pinched. checked that first. so, what IS the actual fuel pressure ??? obviously, you're measuring after the fuel pump, so the line getting the fuel from the tank is OK, but something in the return is wrong. are you sure you're sucking out of the right line? Andy,Pressure is at 50lbs. No, I'm not sure I'm sucking out the right line. pressure is measured with a permanant gauge at the cold start "T".

The most likely problem is that there is a blockage somewhere in the return line.
If you are confident that is not the problem, is it possible that you hooked the pressure regulator up backward (if you replaced all of the fuel lines in the engine compartment, this would be possible). The regulator hooked up backward could create exactly these symptoms. Demick |

Demick, that is what I'm not sure about. Here is what I have. Line from tank filter goes to fuel filter, fuel pump, then to engine compartment to regulator and drivers side fuel rail, to passenger side fuel rail, back to tank. Return is plumbed to the port on the tank that is minus the screen.

Nope. That's your problem. Regulator goes after both fuel rails, and the outlet of the regulator goes directly to the return line. Check DDD's hose routing diagram on Pelican

But is the regulator itself pluged in exactly like Dave's diagram? It sounds like you have the outlet side connected to the fuel rails and the inlet side connected to the return line. The regulator should be plugged in exactly like Dave's diagram looks like.

Yep, regulator is plugged in correctly. I think I better look again at the return line. I know there are no kinks, and it's all new line, but still, stranger things have happened.

QUOTE(vsg914 @ Apr 28 2004, 08:42 PM) anyone else got any ideas? yeah - pull the tank and check the hoses - rip the new fuel lines out of the center tunnel and check them - get a carb-fuel-pump (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) dunno dude, if switching the pressure regualtor didn't work, make sure all injectors work, make sure none of the fuel rails is plugged, make sure the return line works ... did you try WITHOUT pressure regualtor? did you take the return line off the tank and check if you get fuel? (need to plugg the fuel tank end tho) your guess is as good as mine, Andy |

Success! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mueba.gif) After a good night sleep, I woke at 5:00 this morning, pulled the tank, set it on top of it's hole, fired it up, and adjusted the pressure to 29. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) I swore there were no kinks in the return line, but I guess I was wrong. Now all I have to do is get it back together without kinking the line. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)
Thanks Airsix, Andy, and Demick. Once again, this board comes to the rescue. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Sorry Brad, guess we don't need no stinking pictures (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Haha don't worrie I had the same problem I was about to replace the fuel pump. When I stuck my gas tank in I was for sure I didn't have any kinks but I was wrong. Now if I can just figure this hot start problem out.

Well, I finally got to drive it this morning for more than a block, and the new lines, and proper pressure seems to have cured quite a few problems. My poor gas mileage is gone, it idles and accelerates smoother, and my weird problem of missing on a hard right turn is gone. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) Brake fluid is flushed and replaced with dot4, I'm ready for DE @Hallett this weekend. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)
Thanks again for everyones suggestions. Except for Andy who suggested I pull everything out of the tunnel and start over!!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) No F#*ing way. Just kidding Andy. Bruce, 7am is too early for a fat tire (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I wait till at least 7:30 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) |
