This is the first chance I've had to tell you all this story.

I'm working in my yard last Friday while thinking of the stuff I need to buy at the Hershey swap meet the next morning. Note: I have seen less than 10 914s besides mine in my area in the last 15 years.

A guy pulls into my driveway and introduces himself. After exchanging pleasantries, he says, "I saw your garage door open. Would you be interested in a 2.0 liter engine for your car?

um....yeeess?

"I have one in my garage. The body has some rust but the engine has been rebuilt".

So you are saying that it is attached to an entire car?

"Yes, Do you want it?" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I definitely want to take a look at it. Where do you live?

"Right up there"

Up where?

"Four doors down from you" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

How long have you had the car?

"25 years"

How long have you lived there?

"Since 1987"

How the...? What the..? But...

"The car has been in my garage for 10 years".

30 minutes...one brother-in-law...some cable and I now have a fairly rusty but not hopeless 74 with a perfect dash and seats, appearance group, sway bar and a complete 2.0 liter engine....which I towed an entire half a block into my garage. I told him the parts had value and that he could get alot more for them than I could give him but he said "the wife wants it out so please take it".

For all the years of losing.....the vacuum leaks, the confusion and anguish, all the (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) fuel smells, NLA parts, carbon monoxide in the cabin, bloody knuckles, AA shipping overcharges, stripped bolts, electrical gremlins, stinkin' single Weber progressives and oil spots, and the rust...Oh sweet Jesus the rust! I finally got one back! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

Now it starts all over again. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)
