I have a stock 1.7L 914 that is having a little engine trouble. The engine is making a internal knocking noise and i think it is from advanced timing. I was thinking when i decide to get it fixed i want the ignition system to perform better than stock. I was thinking about getting a Bosch 009 Distributor (Complete w/ Cap and Rotor) to replace the stock unit. Can i use this 009 Distributor on a fuel injected engine or is it only for a carb??? I was also thinking about getting Jacobs sparkplug wires and Jacobs energy coil. Does anybody know if Jacobs ignition causes radio noise??? Or should i get Jacobs Omni Magnum that replaces the stock setup??? I have also seen a pointless solid state ignition they say (No more points to burn, bounce or wear out causing your timing to change). Would the pointless ignition work good??
Sorry about all the questions. Thanks, James |

A 009 will not work with Djet FI, has no way to trigger the injectors.
Even with carbs a 009 is not the best thing to use. |

QUOTE(jporsche914 @ May 1 2004, 02:54 PM) Can i use this 009 Distributor on a fuel injected engine or is it only for a carb??? stick w/ the stock dizzy -- you need the trigger points to fire the injectors. uhhhh, you mention that your timing is maybe over-advanced. what makes you suspect this? what is your timing set to? why can't you just re-time it? or do you suspect that the advance curve is f-ed up? describe the noise for us. meanwhile, adjust your valves instal pertonix or crane optical ignition (ie dump points) check rotor/cap reset timing to 27 deg then see what you've got. if you get a new coil, i'd just go w/ a bosch blue. check your plugs and wires, etc. there's not much power to be gained with non-stock ignitions on your Djet if everything is working properly. my 02, have fun (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_flagge24.gif) |

The knock sound like pool balls crashing toghether. It only knocks and smokes at 1000 to 2000 rpm. From 2000 to redline there is not a knocking sound. It doesnt knock when i use the gears to slow down either.

I'd buy a timing light first, this is an tool you'll want to have in your collection....from the sounds of it, it has nothing to do with your ignition being too far advanced, you'd hear "pinging" (pebbles in a tin can)
