Place an ADD in Craigslist with some REWARD on the public's help in finding it.

Also it tells the 914 part searchers to be aware that your 914 was stolen.

You never know when someone goes to buy a BBQ and scans your add. Then they go to some random neighborhood and see a similar car and calls you.

Then you can swoop in with a few friends like the Navy Seals and take it back. Burial at sea. (this is not a support of violence in any way, but a KARMA call)

Good Luck! I'd also offer a REWARD flyer at the local PD for a nice dinner, massage or whatever to the cop who can find this car. OR to a local charity of their choice, in the name of the PD, if they can find this car. Get the patrol officers looking in allies and driveways as they patrol the city. Usually the patrol officers respond to calls. But MAYBE they would look if there was a challenge/reward.

Go to the local airports and put up the Flyer there too. Maybe someone flying over the area will see this little car out in a field or abandon somewhere and call it in.

Flyer to the Rotary that can be emailed out to the local businesses via email.

Flyer at the FLAPS. Those guys work on cars and 'dirt bag' meth users might turn on their friend who has it in a garage so they can score their next hit.

Finally, call your insurance company to see if they are interested in offering any funds on that REWARD. Cheaper to fund a few thousand instead of paying off a HUGE car amount and replacement. Certainly looked like it was a CONVERSION SIX and work 35k. yes? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Then hit the news stations and see if you can get a SPIN on how you are putting up flyers and seeking out this car. It's one car, but worth so much more. Here in Seattle people get news stories about Christmas Decorations that are stolen. It's worth a shot to have bring up the car being stolen that was to be given to your grandson. Make the calls....it might be a slow story day or the human interst story may be a filler.

phew....sorry for the rant. But figured my ideas couldn't hurt.

I will keep watch in the Coachella Valley area. They might head east on I-10.

Craigslist ad is a great suggestion. Cover surrounding areas too. Inland Empire, Palm Springs, Orange County, etc

rats, i'd thought the poor shift action (do kids these days still know how to drive stick?) would be enough to discourage most of the idiot thieves out there...

I used the No tweeker could shift this car security method also.... started leaving the nut to the wheel lose so i can take the wheel off when leaving it outside of the garage.

I know i would be emotionally broken if someone took my rusty pile. yours seemed so nice that i would probably go postal if someone took such a thing of beauty from me.

Best of wishes, and when you find them ask them if they have seen my tv (top gear joke)

This sucks sooo much Dave! I'm so sorry!

I'll keep my eyes peeled here in North County. Few 914's get through north county without one of my friends seeing it.. so We'll all keep an eye out for ya.

Good luck man!

Remember any strangers that seemed interested in it lately and what their location was? Wouldn't they have needed to push it down the street to get it out of sight to tow or load it on a trailer? Maybe the ignition sw plug is easy to jump if you know bugs, I haven't thought about how hard to hotwire a 914 is before. I'm sure if I thought about ahead of time I could form a quick plan though but that would take a 914 knowledge.

I guess just a hotwire on the coil and pushing it off would work. If the steering wheel lock doesn't work.

I have some friends with a non discript van and helicopter that could hide a few bodies for you.

People that stole your car should be stolen themselves and parted out.

Ok I feel better......

Be aware that there is no 30 day waiting to get paid from insurance; you can get reimbursed right away. The caveat is once they pay you they own the car if it is recovered.

I had a 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona stolen and recovered 23 days later...the same day the insurance check was going to get cut. One more day and I would not have gotten the car back.

Hopefully you are insured?

Dave,
Really sorry to hear about what happened to your sweet ride. Have you thought about placing a want ad for '73,74 914 parts? Something like you need a hood or a driver's door. If you get any hits, verify that they're not from your car and make some excuse why you're not interested. If these pukes are going to part it out, they may just bite!
Again, really sorry about your car,
Cesar

Man the thought of someone stealing my car just scares the crap out of me after all that it is going to take to get it on the road the way it should be. Maybe LoJack is the way to go on these cars? At least if some asshat steals it you could track it and get it back right away.

I feel for your loss and hope the thief(s) are found and cornered by a bunch of 914 owners and beaten to bloody, unrecognizable pulps.
