Hi Guy's , i brought my 914 to my mechanic to replace my 1973 1.7l engine for a 1974 4 cyl 2.0l . my mechanic made the swap and just called me to tell me that about 4 bunches of wires are not equiped with the same connector or as either more or less wires . plus he tells me he probably needs the (engine fuse box) if it's called that way and other things .
is there adapters that i can buy to fit the electrical or a diagram or kit ???? or do i need to find a specialist to bring the car to him ?. tanks for the advice. p.s. the 1.7 was fonctional and is fuel inj as of the 2.0 |

These two engines, if stock and previously functional, should be a direct plug N play, electrically speaking.
The ignition harnesses and relay boards are identical. The only difference is the different fuel injection harnesses specific to each engine, which have identical plug connectors and wiring at the relay board. No changes are necessary as you describe the set-up. Maybe the mechanic can provide more detail/photos of the specific issues? |

I hope you are referring to the "Relay Board". Main body harness plugs in with a 14 pin connector. Engine harness plugs in with a 12 pin connector. FI harness is a 4 pin connector.
Electrically, the 1.7 & 2.0 FI harnesses are essentially the same, but the components are in different locations. The Throttle body and cold start valve are in different locations on the 2.0. The throttle body may have a different number of pins. Hopefully, the 2.0 came with the FI harness installed. If not, you will be looking for a 2.0 FI harness. Probably doesn't answer your question, but it is what I remember. |

What you have there is a DAPO mangled engine harness.

Are you sure your new engine is a 2.0? Maybe its was a 1.8L bored out to 2.0 with a 1.8L fuel injection system? The harness part you hold in your hand is typically on a 1975 1.8L fuel injection harness (7-contacts for the AFM). The fuel injector electrical connections in the background of the last photo are also typical for a 1.8L engine, not a 1.7 or 2.0. The larger sensor in the last photo is an MPS, appropriate for either the 1.7 or 2.0 engines, not applicable to a 1.8L engine, and we need the part numner to see which engine it is correct for.
If you actually have a 1.8L fuel injection system, you will need the 1.8L ignition harness and a double relay, to connect the FI system up correctly. |

Jeff .... the MPS is an 049 which can work with both if it is good. I can see the number in the pic.
As far as the "electronic ignition", the only one used on the 4 cyl that needs a trigger box is the Crane / Allison XR700 or XR3000 ... the optical pickup is mounted in the dizzy. The other "points replacement" mechanisms (Petronix, Compufire and I don't remember the Chinese one's name) have a pickup in the distributor with a 4 pole magnet affair that goes over the point cam. Now does your 2.0L engine you acquired have 3 studs that hold the intake runner to the head or 4 studs? |
