was custom-build by the factory for a customer.
obviously the guy must have had some serious $$$ and even better connections to the factory to get that off the ground.

i don't know who it was build for and i don't know what ever happened to the car either ...

OOH OOH! I know, I know!! It had a 2.7 liter injected motor just like the 911 right next to it. It had 15" wheels all the way around. It was actually made and shipped to the US but that is about all I know. And it is all heresay. There was an article I had read about it a few years ago.

the story I heard about the '76 /6 is that it was made for a factory driver as a gift from the factory....like you said, nothing but hearsay right now....

from the "Das Grosse VW-Porsche-Buch" book:

"In '75 the factory in zuffenhausen build a (custom) 914/6 that was ordered by a customer but we were unable to abtain any records of the car other than the picture below."

Bleyseng, I think the car that are thinking about was the extra 916. A Porsche employee brought a 914-6 M471 back to the factory and they installed 916 OEM parts to the car. Everything but the solid metal roof. I've had the pleasure of driving this car many times at Sebring and it was a blast. The car is now totally disassembled in Naples, FL and is for sale.

Hm. The tail dragger looks like a 76 turbo. If so, it's a 3.0.
