While doing the "tech" inspection on Saturday for the WCC, Scott Yeaman and I noticed a few (okay, more than a few) 914's had loose front wheel bearings.
Of course an owner does not want to hear this and would always come up with a reply after telling them they'll have to tighten them before we signed them off: "they cannot be loose, I just had my mechanic go over the car 100%" or "what do you expect for a 30 year old car??" or "come on, I've been driving it that way for ages, it's no big deal" or "I don't know how, besides I don't have the tools" Well guess what? Tough...fix the damn thing before you forget and it gets worse!!!!! Luckly for many, Scott had his trailer and a nice selection of tools to use. For those that did not know how to tighten up the bearings, we set them up with a fellow 914 owner that was doing the repair on thier own car. I believe we had 6 or 7 cars that needed this done. |
