This morning I got a very disturbing call from a friend of mine. He took his car over to a guy to get some work done about a month ago. He wanted to get it last weekend but could not reach the guy, It is parked at a friend of mines shop against his better judgement. My friend calls me this morning to tell me that Joes car is messed up. Said that he needed to come down there. Here is what he saw when he arrived.

The wheels are the oes he just got from D&G last fall. They were fully polished 2 liter Fuch alloys and they had brand new 195X50X15 Yokohama tires with less than 200 miles on them. They were flawless and very shiny. If anyone sees a set out there, let me know and I will pass it on to him and with any luck, we can get the guys who did this. Who ever it was, used a Bilstien jack to lift the car as they left it behind. They dented the hell out of his car too. It looks dirty cause its been outside all this time wating to get worked on.

What did someone steal the wheels or something and use the jack that came with the car? That is wrong. Get this car away from that guy. get a hold of that guy and get the wheels. good luck.

Nope, they brought their own jack, Joe didnt have one in the car. No radio or anything, he was getting it ready to take to the paint shop to get it painted for summer.

watch eBay...people are stupid enough to put hot items on it.....I'd also watch any on-line classifieds (recycler.com), and keep an eye on the VW Bugs running around town......when is the next Pomona swapmeet?

this is a big fear of mine, my 914 rims and tires cost more than i paid for the entire car.

This is the parts car Joe bought for $500.00. It had been parked for over 10 years and we towed it home to find that there was no rust in the car. So he decided to keep it and fix it up. The interior was perfect and it took me all of about 20 minutes to get the engine running in it. It had a 75 1.8 liter with FI. He drove it for a few months while we built the 2.6 liter. This car is very strong and fast. We did a side shift conversion on it, upgraded to 320i front brakes, turbo tie rods and all that stuff. He spent about 3500 just on the engine. The wheels were very nice. The most perfect set of Fuchs I have ever seen. Like mirrors. His insurance should cover it, but I would really like to find who took them. He estimates the cost on the tires and wheels around $1400.00.

Costa Mesa, in so cal. It happened last night sometime. I think Pomona is coming up and we may go out there looking. I have already been scouting Ebay and the recycler. I get around a lot so I will also be out watching for VW's with fuchs on them as well. As for an insider job, I would say since the car has been sitting there for over 3 weeks, they had plenty of time to scope it out.

yes, but the market is very limited. most of the ricer kids wouldn't know what to do with a 914 if you gave them one for free!
my point is, there are not too many people around that know what a 2.0L Fuchs wheel is, let alone have a spare 914 jack in their tool-kit.
and only very few of those who do will drive around at night stealing tires ...

Well, they stole a set of nice Mercedes wheels too from a car parked a few stalls down. Looks like they were after German wheels.

This makes me not want to park my car at school next year... Did you have wheel locks?

Im always online looking for nice fuchs. What tires did it have? What size were the wheels? If I see an ad that has the same wheels and tires, I'll let you know.

Looks-like a VW jack to me... I'll bet you see them on a Bug or at the swap-meet. Check the Orange Drive-in, or any others this weekend! Too bad shop didn't roll-car into safety at night. If they can see it ... they'll take it ! Bummer.. lucky they didn't grab those carbs also! Hope they get popped....

I have been running wheel locks on my Fuchs for about 5 years now. Cheap insurance. The 4 bolt Fuchs are highly sought after to the VW crowd.
