QUOTE(bowlsby @ Jun 9 2004, 04:31 AM) The 4 bolt Fuchs are highly sought after to the VW crowd. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Might be hard to find them, the creap will most likely sit on them for a year and then put them on his bug. With so many 914 and bug guys running these rims, it will be hard to prove that a set is your buddies. I have fuchs on my squareback. Maybe I should get locks. Totally sucks dOOd. I've got locks on mine and it's parked in my back yard. You can also get a engraver to put your social security number (or other securtity number) on the inside of the rims. That way you can prove that they are yours If they are ever found.

Have the police check the jack/car for fingerprints. Who knows, might get lucky.

That is sad.
Wheel locks. If a shop wants to work on a car, do it and stop delaying. L. McC |

Now they have your Rims and Identity... This exact thing happened to me in college to my first 914. But I just found it sitting on its belly. Seems they jacked it, took the tires, and kicked it off the jacks onto its belly. Pissed the hell out of me. But I got another set of rims and calmed down. A few months later I saw a 914 driving around with my rims. Went to the cops and to make a long story short I got my rims back. The wife and husbands stories did not match up. I had wide Pirelli tires on them. The guy said he got the tires locally. Back then, You could not get them anywhere but mailorder in this area. Plus my fenders were rolled to fit the rims and tire combination. They were rubbing really bad on his car. I live in a small town in the desert. It can happen anywhere... |

Tod914, In SoCal, the cops could care less about stuff like that and would not go out of their way to do fingerprints. I guess if you paid someone to do it then maybe. Scott, Who was this "guy" that your friend took his car to? Does he own his own shop? Was the car found at that "guys" place or at your other friends work? I would start by going after the "guy" that he took his car too. I go to the Pomona swap meets, so ill keep my eyes peeled for you . Also, even thought I live in a diffent area, I'll still keep my eyes open for them floating around on VW bugs. There are several out here. Also, they hold the "Bugorama" (or whatever its called) in Irvine i think annually. That would be a place to scope out too. Is there a picture of the rims that you can post? |

They obviously knew what they were getting as they took the lug bolts too.
Scott, does Joe need as set of wheels to move it - Glenn just acquired a set of Pedrinis, but I think they are early style. Also, if I do a 5 lug, I have an extra set of FUCHs that I would loan Joe (yeh, with the lug bolts) as long as his engine doesn't oil the front of my new paint job (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |

Scott,
The VW classic is at Verizon Amphitheater this Sunday. I plan on attending if I can and will keep my eyes open for these wheels. Cheers, Elliot |

What about the shop that was doing (not doing) the work. They have some responsibility here as well. Not only for the stolen wheels but for the related damage as well.
Don't let this go by, and good luck. |

I was wondering the same...I guess if they really want the wheels they'll get them.
Having said that, where can I get wheel locks for 5-bolt wheels? I agree about the shop the car was at...how come they didn't tell you what had happened...sounds like a friend told you, not the shop |

Well, to make a long story short, The car was at my friends shop on the side actually, The guy that was going to do the work does a lot of stuff there on the side of the building. He has done stuff for Joe before but it has never taken that long. So the mechanic doesnt actually have a shop. So since he doesnt have a shop, he has no insurance for this. I guess that is why he is so cheap. He does good work though. He was going to R&R the engine in Joes car to remove the head gaskets which are leaking, copper ones, and just lap them in instead, for $300.00. Find a shop to do that! In anycase, my friend who owns the shop where Joes car was parked is now making the mechanic remove all his cars and stuff from the area. He is upset about all this too.
SLITS, yeah, Joe needs a set of wheels to get his car out of there. He is currently looking for another set of Fuchs to replace the stolen ones and he wants to get his car out of there before they come back and take the engine. If you want to contact him direct, let me know and I will give you his email address. |

That your friend didn't kill anyone standing near him when he saw his car is a credit to him!
QUOTE put your social security number (or other securtity number) on the inside of the rims. Do NOT use your social security number or drivers license number! If your wheels get stolen, the theif could sell those numbers to identity thieves. Identity thieves would LOVE that (finally caught my guy when they busted a meth lab). Use your address/name. |

You could mark rims with your licence plate #,state and year. Even if you get new licence plates keep your registration card for proof of ownership. That way there's a way to track down to the orginal owner even if you sell them. Just a thought.
