Okay, new problem, trying to get my windows to line up reasonably
close to the 3 sides of the car. Passenger side not too bad, down
about 3/16" in the back when adjusted as much as I can. BUT, the
driver's side has slowly been beating away the seal hitting the
triangle, and at the top front corner.

Now, this car is far from a sagger, and I only have one theory. That
is that maybe the windshield frame has been pushed down (more
on driver's side). These things aren't very strong, are they? There's
been times where I just grab the front and the targa bar and jump
in, am I pushing it down myself? If it is not right, can it be pushed
up a bit to fix this problem?

the windshield frame flexes very easily.
but usually, it moves back into the original position.
you can measure the distance from the floor on the edges
and see if there's a difference on either side.
make sure you have both doors wide open (or removed) when measuring.

also, the door height can be adjusted. maybe your door just needs to be a bit lower. the door mounts slide up/down after you losen the bolts.
the same goes for the lock plate in the back. you can move the whole door up/down.

Thanks Andy, I didn't know that the front nut plate could move around,
never been inside there before. So far, it doesn't look like enough
adjustment, though. I am going to measure the frame, and also see
really what happens when I take off some weight from the middle by
jacking with a 2x4.

the manner in which the early window glass was held in place at the bottom left something to be desired. is the glass sitting true/tight in the rect metal piece that holds it. if the little guide rollers that sit on the pins on the vert metal strip on the front of the window have gone south that might contribute to the problem as well.

Are you adjusting the chrome channel guide for the window (from the bottom of the door) ?? There is a lot of adjustment there.

Yea I know about the normal adjustment there, but it really
isn't solving it because that pivots in such a way that (if there
was enough adjustment in my case) if the triangle glass lined
up well, the top window edge would be down a huge amount.
Also the chrome channel goes up too high.

I measured the height at each side, and the left side is 1/8"
lower. I see what people mean when they say it's not strong,
if I have my straight edge ruler there I can move it that far
with just my hand. I think I would have things under control
if I could press the left side up.

My favorite is when people waste a race cage pickup point by going to the windshield...LOL

Be very careful pressing on the winshield frame.. I would hate for you to break the windshield.

I also do a measurement from the B pillar (targa bar) to the A pillar (windshield hoop) Find a common measurement place that you can use on both sides.

The other thing we do (dont tell anybody)

: Place a floorjack and a piece of wood with a bathroom towel over it and slowly lift the door (back near the end) The OE hinges are starting to sag.. and need some help *Up*

Not that I want the windshield to break, but my ace in the hole
is that the windshield has been delaminated at the corners since
before I got the car. Crap aftermarket one I guess.

Ya know...I've been seeing some cars at various events with "gusseted" rollcages, i.e. welded continuously to the windshield pillars, door pillars etc.

I always wondered if it was (a) legal and ((IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) worth doing or just "for show".

If you want the windshield posts to be strong... gusset them. I'm personally not going to waste 2 points in the cage by going to the windshield. 911 guy's do it... dont know why..

Mark,

What did you come up with ?? I pulled a door panel off of "Muellers6" and started farting around with adjusting the window/track. Its catching on the rubber on the A pillar. Andy notice this evening that the door may be mounted a little high. I'll drop it tomorrow.

Brad, I'm going slow. First try at pressing to 1/4" didn't do anything.
Came back. Going to 1/2" seemed to raise it a little. Doing some
more now.

I thought I could have pictures but I found out today that
even though the ruler is very close to it, it's not close
enough. Depending on the angle you look at it it's
different. And my seal, which was in bad shape before,
is destroyed so I really am now just wingin' it.

Alright, I guess I was on the right track. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif) At least I can't think of any
other way to accomplish what just happened. After lifting about 1/2", the
thing moved up slightly. So I did it again, went up to about 5/8" and a
few hours later (who knows if you have to wait) I put it down and it is
between 1/8" and 3/16" higher. Before and after pics in this and next
post.

At that point, the door and window was easily adjustable to get ALL 3
sides good. The top followed the roof very accurately.

No cracky. The thing made a few creaks most times I jacked it, but no
problems.

I did move the door back up to the high position, but at least on
my car it moves a very small amount. I messed with the window
adjustment, but it was clear that the PO saw that it was hard to
get the window in the groove and had adjusted it all the way to
the most force inward.
