I just got this 74 914 and the drivers door is hard to close/latch. There is no rust issue (the door isn't sagging) and I tried to adjust the striker plate in the doorjam, but that didn't help. I think the door latch in the door itself is worn and it's not holding the door shut. I have to push on the door slowly from the outside for it to latch completely and then it pops ajar when I hit a bump.

Can this door latch be repaired or replaced? I see only 2 screws holding it in from the outside, but it doesn't seem to loosen much when I remove them.

3 total - - - 2 outside - 1 inside - gotta remove the door panel.

You can find them used if you ask.

I had that same problem on my yellow car when I got it. I replaced the latch mechanism and it worked great after that. Never had another problem. I would suggest that you clean the new replacement very well and lube it up with some white lithium grease before installing it, That way you will never have to do it again.
