My -6 with 2.2 is getting high oil temp on longer trips or
autocross runs. While asking about this on 911 pelican, it
was mentioned how heat exchangers and engine tin could
allow hot air back into the fan.

Mine are open, no flappers or paper hoses. Fan outlets are
plugged but engine tin 2 large holes are open.

What is the proper thing to do to keep the fan getting cold air?
Plug all exchanger ends? I will cover the engine tin holes.

Thanks

I remember reading in a jake raby vw post on a board somewhere that when running no air thru the heat exhanger's that it can infact heat up the heads more as air is not running around the exhaust pipe thru the heat exchanger. granted this was some post about bug engines and various fan shrouds being compared and as to use heat exhancgers vs headers. bottom line was that he said something about heat soak increasing head temps if there was no air flow thru the exchangers.

I will take them off your hands! Do you want to trade for large headers?
