they didn't ...
at least not for production models!

however, some prototype models did come with the badge.
it was never a factory option for any production 914 ...

Could it be just well-aimed bird dooings?

nope. it had one stuck on for a few brochure pictures, but the hood doesn't have the holes ...

It looks like there may be crests on the hub caps too which wasn't a factory option at all. AFAIK
