I bought a bunch of leds and resistor's on this crazy idea that i could make a shift light setup in a stock tach can. Any friends in the area that have a spare plane jane tacho that they could spare for experimenting? I will be running the shift light with my megasquirt. Also plan to do led backlighting to it at the same time so there could be a potential for starting to convert these to leds if anyone in the neighborhood would be interested. Let me know Thanks guys!

I've been waiting to see your car for a while now (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

I won't be able to be at the BBQ this weekend though. I am going to Packwood for the SCCA National Tour. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

Let me know how it goes.

I am an EE and have a lot of experience with LEDs.
I build like 2000 watt fixtures for coral reef tanks.
I could probably make headlights with the spare parts I have ;-)

Anyway, I'd like to see what you learn.
Does the tach have a "pulse accumulator" that turns into a DC voltage?
If so, you could easily use that to dim a LED ballast or use a comparator to turn on individual LEDs at various RPMs.

I have never dug into one.

Oh, and I have at least two spare tachs.....

My Fi computer (megasquirt) has an optional daul tach light output so i will be making an f1 style shift light setup that overlays around the 5-7 grand section of the tach. That way when you hit say 5 grand the 5-6 grand section lights up. then you hit six and the 6 grand section lights up till 7,000

these will be controlled strictly by the ecu i have. I'll try to let everyone see the end product
